It would be hard sell for me to trade Marchand for a 2nd round pick. Just seems like a horrible return.
yeah you can't do that. if this thing goes totally off the rails and he doesn't sign, you're looking at a
claude giroux type of return when the flyers sent him to florida with a couple of warm bodies and
a 5th round pick. philly got a 1st round pick, owen tippett (who was a very good prospect at the time)
and a 3rd rounder.

but i'm signing this guy all day long and twice on sunday. too important to deal (unless they do some
type of thing like keith tkachuk did with the blues, where they traded him and then he signed with them
on july 1).

Yeah unless he randomly retires, i hope he stays at a reasonable # IF he can still lead the team and him and his family are still in a place they want to be.

Oh for sure, but I don't think they're desperate to trade their captain and life long Bruin.
I don't think they should be desperate to trade him but they should absolutely be exploring it as that's part of their job. I just don't see why you absolutely have to keep a soon to be 37 year old Marchand when the team is not a contender.

People are still upset the Bruins didn't keep Bobby Orr even though he only played another what 50 NHL games before retiring? Blackhawks terrible the next decade Bruins annual contenders.

Marchand is a future HOFer and career Bruin seeing him in another sweater will be very upsetting to a lot of people.

Has he been offered an extension?

I'd rather it come from the next GM. Give him term and shake hands to ride it out on LTIR if he falls off.

It would be cool to have him be like Mark Stone and sit out the regular season when he's old but come back to play 4th line playoffs.

Not that I think they'd trade Marchand to anywhere he wouldn't want to go (or trade him period really), but Giroux had a full NMC and decided he only wanted to go to Florida. That affects the return greatly (look at Tarasenko last year as well).

Marchand has a 8 team NTC. Different ball of wax.

I think you can get more, and if you can they should take it.
Love Marchand and imo they easily get more. He’s been a great Bruin and it would look extremely weird to see him in any other uniform other than the Bruins and team Canada, but you have to do what’s best for the Organization moving forward and moving Marchand is their biggest chip. So if the Bruins are out of it on March 6th. He's gone, I’ll ask him where he prefers to go and I’ll see if it'll work, but no promises he's going for the best return. He is imo the Bruins best chip on a re-tool and the Bruins need to cash in on it. Now if all your offered is a measly 2nd I keep him, unless he asks to leave, but with his elite skill level and all those intangibles he brings to a team, I think your going to get a pretty hefty package in a return.

You should be able to get more than a second. Decency says you ask his preference where he would like to go, but the bottom line is he goes to receive the best package.
