Marchand brings a lot of things Kucherov and Selanne wish they could bring.

To be fair, I don't think the HHOF has ever really considered being a "pest" as a quality or attribute making somebody more or less deserving of induction ot the Hall. It honestly, may be a detractor, simply because some of the "old school" guys who make these decisions, not being a huge fan of the way he plays.

Teemu Selanne had a 1451 game NHL career, and averaged over a point per game through his career. He scored 76 goals as a rookie -- a mark likely never to be touched again.

Ultimately, you look at Marchand, and he still has games to tack on, but they're not likely going to be at a point per game level.

I think the most reasonable comparable might be a guy like Martin St. Louis... who has kind of similar production, especially if you adjust for "era".

However St. Louis at least did win major individual hardware including the Art Ross (x2), Hart, Lindsay, Lady Bing (x3) and was a 5-time All-Star Team Honour. Marchand's got 4 All-Star team honours, but no major awards, and they're probably not going to be forthcoming either.

You've kind of gotta ask yourself... what is the "compelling" reason he should be in?

Is it peak performance? not really... him at his peak was good when he put up 100 points, but there were 10 guys in the league that year who had 95 or more.

Is it longevity? not really... bit of a later bloomer from an offensive standpoint.. and is seemingly beginning to tail off.

Marchand is a very good player. I love/hate him. Love to watch him play, hate when it's against my team. IMO very good players don't/shouldn't be in the HOF. Only great players earn that right. But I/we are not the voters, so who knows if he gets in or not.

I think since he is 35+ he is going to go year to year and take bonus heavy contracts like Bergeron/Krejci did if it allows the team to do something to enhance their competitive window.

Yup, he’s cut from the same cloth. He’s going to allow Boston to keep as much flexibility as possible.

0% chance he touches the hall with his falloff post 2022

He cost himself hall of fame with poor 2023 and 2024 seasons as his first 6-7 years of his career were not even hall of very good level let alone HHOF

If his prime had lasted longer (2017-2022) by 2-3 years he would have made it

I'm not a Bruins fan by any means but Marchand has a very good case and likely does get in. Also, plenty of players with short primes were inducted over the years.

- 2x first AST
- 2x second AST
- Hart record: 5,5,7,9,11
- Selke record: 9,9,10,12,12
He scored more points during his five year peak than Kane, MackInnon, Kucherov among others (and he had less GP than those three).

His prime years (2014-2024), hes 8th in points.

John Leclair and Rick Martin are the only two I can think of.

Inb4 he signs an extension this week.

Yeah them talking could totally be true, but Marchand threw some shade about negotiating in the media during the Swayman stuff, so makes sense for him to try to squash anything (true or not).
