Proposal: Bourque and Dumba to Pittsburgh

What do you think?

You probably have to add. The Pens are not in contention so they are better off keeping their picks.

Guentzel who you guys drafted and Point were 3rds (not that 3rds are guaranteed success) but idk if you win either way because even you attain these players what is the goal? Your cup days are over. Are you making this trade in hope you can make the playoffs?

I'd guess that around 10-15 gm would beat this offer... Pretty much giving away Bourque for nothing
An accepted RFA offer sheet only costs the offering team a 2nd up to ~4.5 mil per, and the Stars wouldn't get rid of Dumba in that scenario.

Is that a better outcome?

The trade is to get an NHL ready young player in Bourque, at the cost of taking on a cap dump in Dumba.

Bourque is 23, adding young NHLers relatively cheaply is a great way to speed up a rebuild. Most latev 1sts don't turn into Guentzels or Points so flipping a 2nd or 3rd for Bourque sounds like good business to me.

Same trade package for a better return would be a better outcome? Got to think Chicago, San Jose, Philadelphia, Montreal, Nashville, etc. offer more.

What age will Bourque be when you guys actually start the rebuild because keeping Crosby and company isn't starting the rebuild

Ok.

Montreal offers PIT 2025 2nd, VAN 2025 3rd and Joshua Roy for Bourque and Dumba. Dallas almost definitely says no, but its unquestionably a better offer.
Why would MTL offer that if they could just sign Bourque to a prohibitive short term offer sheet with only a 2nd as compensation?

Is Dallas matching an offer sheet for 1 year at 4.5 mil?

We're not trading Crosby so the next couple of seasons at the very least is going to be a retool.

I could care less about your team and what they do or don't do. I say that with all due respect.

I just think a team in their position should consider hanging on to picks where they are now. That's just imo

1. Montreal has a lot of prospects and wont have room for all of them.
2. Montreal has a ton of picks in this draft and likely wont use them all.
3. Offer sheets should be a last resort thing, if you can make a trade work instead then its preferable. Especially if it preserves offer sheet flexibility elsewhere.
4. I don't really like Dumba as a fit, but Montreal needs a veteran RD placeholder for a season given Savard's retirement and Dumba can do that. You can always recoup some value for Dumba at the deadline when contenders are looking for D depth in case of injuries.

Its not really a big offer.

Do you know how many picks we've got in the next 3 drafts? It is a lot. Trading some picks for actual young NHL players is smart asset management as if you use every single pick you're not going to have enough space to give all these prospects AHL time.

Not all picks work out. You may pick someone who retires at 23 and thats why (again imo) its nice to have a few. All those picks though will certainly rebuild your farm.
