Proposal: Bouchard for Karlsson

You honestly think that is making a difference with his current negotiations?

Nurse is still the base there bud
Nurse isn't a comparable bud.
Nurse plays the tougher defensive minutes and is out there protecting 1 goal leads like a top Dman should. Bouchard gets replaced by Emberson in the last minute of games and on PK.

Makar, Hughes, Dobson and others might be better comparables.

Nurse will be a comparable after he inks his new contract. He will know what Nurse went through as a punching bag in Edmonton.

...and again, you cherry-pick, this time snippets of a post; I stated that he "would be a negative infinity" (yes, an obvious exaggeration) ON PITTSBURGH because 1) they don't have an Ekholmesque defender to pair with him to compensate for his (again) OBVIOUS defensive shortcomings (why do you think Team Canada doesn't take a high-octane RD like Bouchard??...perhaps they also see that he requires the type of LD partner they don't have on the team...maybe??...or do YOU think you know more than the management of Team Canada does??) 2) Pitt is not the puck possession JUGGERNAUT that the Oil are, therefore negating some of Bouchard's strengths while having the possibility of amplifying his weaknesses, since his team will possess the puck less, causing him to have to defend more 3) again, you use specific stats as your ENTIRE arguement here, while dismissing completely that they are highly contextual and even slight variables, like the quality of competition specific to shifts, can/does amplify said stats in one way or another...etc, etc, etc...and the kicker is that you run screaming to "defend" Bouchard when no one was attacking him, just stating his obvious shortcomings along with his obvious strengths...so I guess just keep burying your head in the sand when it comes to anyone saying anything that isn't a GLOWING review of an Edmonton Oiler...have fun...

It is very rare for people to give Bouchard any credit for his performance. Ekholm, McD and Drai are always brought up as the reason for Bouchard’s success.

In fact you said exactly that: Bouchard without Ekholm would be “negative infinity” (on Pittsburgh). Hyperbolic language like that is going to evoke a response… you should be ready with your supporting argument.

The stats don’t support that statement. Not one bit. The stats say that Bouchard tilts the ice no matter who he is playing with.

A 58% goal share without McD, Drai or Ekholm is huge.

And yes, I understand Pittsburgh is a weaker team than Edmonton. But are they a weaker team than Edmonton with those three guys off the ice? Don’t think so…

So maybe just maybe Bouchard is part of the reason Edmonton is a puck possession juggernaut.

And maybe just maybe that would translate to Pittsburgh.

The stats, which I’m sure were a big surprise to you, say he would.

I think Bouchard will cost 8-9M. With McDavid’s contract due in 2 years you can’t pay everyone.

Thanks for the rationale.

Oilers fans have been running the numbers. Its easy to put him in at any number under 10… that’s the reason we let Broberg and Holloway go.

And he’d be an absolute steal at 8-9… I fear it won’t be that low.

Plus… even if equivalent to Karlsson for the next three years (which I doubt), 8-9 vs 6.5 isn’t enough savings to justify moving from an 8 year contract for Bouch to Karlssons remaining years… Oilers have signed Drai, will sign McD we are building for a longer window. Where Bouchard will only be coming into his prime in those years.

Bouchard doesn’t get you a retained Karlsson and a 1st round pick
Kids, this is why you don't drink and post.

"Pitts gets a right handed defenseman entering his prime to kick off the rebuild and they can afford to pay him."

This statement makes fundamentally zero sense. Why are they trading a 1st for a defenseman entering his prime if they're just about to kick off the rebuild? This is the kind of move that a team makes when they're exiting a rebuild and want to start contending.

They'll trade Karlsson retained for futures because that's actually what rebuilding teams do.
Bouchard is 24, he is futures but this would be an absolutely asinine trade by the Oilers to the highest degree that is so far from reality that this thread should be deleted immediately thrown in the trash and lit on fire never to be seen or talked about again.

This is one of the worst proposals I have seen. A 25 year old with the best playoff points over the last 2 playoffs for Karlson. And your an Oiler fan....God there's a lot of trolls with short memories on here.

A 24 year old player when the Penguins are about to start a likely 5+ year rebuild is not "futures".

Bouchard will likely be in his low to mid 30s by the time the Penguins are ready to contend again, so what's the point of them trading for him? Not only that, but his offense is going to plummet when going from McDavid and Draisaitl to whatever the Penguins will have after Crosby and Malkin retire.

I don't want Karlsson. He's too hit or miss, and he's only been really successful in this league when everything runs through him. That isn't what is going to happen in Edmonton, we have too many better players for EK to be the centre of our offense. I don't see a fit in Edmonton for EK. Not at all.

Given that Bouchard is reportedly asking 11 million so now that becomes 14 with the retention and they give up a first. I can’t understand why the penguins would not do this 😀
