I have some doubt you see beyond the Oilers logo when it comes to Edmonton players. As I recall you recently just suggested the Oilers trade Matt Savoie to Nashville for Fabbro (for the Preds to even consider it!) hours before he went on waivers for free.
Nope.

I'm sure you would....because you've seen Sanderson play I'm guessing thrice in your life.
Yeh and you saw some isolated highlights of Bouch and think he’s horrible defensively. Probably didn’t see his GENERATIONAL playoff run either where he outplayed the likes of Huges and Heiskanen at both ends of the ice.

I did indeed and I have seen him enough to know he's not close to Sanderson defensively. Offensively? Yes. Defensively? Nope.

Defence is played at both ends of the ice. The best defenceman this game has ever seen and will ever see, have always been 2-way defenceman with a huge bias towards offence. Bouchard is fine defensively, he was one half of the best defensive pair last year. Where did Sanderson rank? Will Sanderson ever put up Brian Leetch/Paul Coffey numbers in the playoffs? Doubtful.

He makes for a pretty good pylon, especially when not being coddled by Ekholm. Any defenceman asking for something in the 10 million range shouldn’t need a babysitter on the ice. If he can’t improve defensively it’s high risk for turning into a bad contract if a team can’t feed him offensive opportunities.

That “pylon” outplayed Hughes and Heiskanen in games that matter most just this past off-season. Hughes, in particular, got caved in the playoffs - brutal all around performance from a Norris winner. Is he a pylon too?

Do you?

And once again, for the record, it should be noted that you think Bouchard is a better defender than Sanderson. Just for the lols sake.
All around, Bouchard is better. Factor in playoff performances, handedness, and team need and Edmonton doesn’t even remotely consider trading them 1 for 1. Even if Bouchard gets 10M+.

Credibility was lost after this, hard to take you serious now.
No that’s pretty accurate. All things considered Edmonton turns down Bouchard for Chabot+2 1sts. Makes zero sense.

Offensively I take Bouch
Defending I take Sanderson

Shot is Bouch

Skating is Sanderson

This is a horrendous deal for the Oilers. They already have Ekholm and Nurse on the left side and nothing after Bouchard on the right side.

Ffs, it's not all around. It's all around to you, maybe, but not to people who watch Sanderson.

That’s a fair argument, you’d be forced to play someone of their off side which could be disastrous.

Bouchard has better underlying numbers with Adam Henrique than Sanderson does with Tim Stutzle. Sanderson is a fine young player, but he's not in Bouchard's league yet. It wasn't an accident that Bouch finished top 5 in Norris voting.

I have no issue with someone saying Bouchard is better than Sanderson, what I have issue with is anyone saying he's better defensively. Because he's not.

I also think their values aren't vastly dissimilar, but that's neither here nor there in this thread.

No worth the hassle. We can trade Chabot elsewhere and avoid the headache that Oilers about to go through.
If you think it would be "too much of a hassle" for your GM to do his job and negotiate a contract, a trade, or arbitration, to the point where you would prefer to pass on, in this case, multiple 1sts of extra value, you should be calling for said GM to be fired today.

Then you guys trade for him, if you think it’s great.
Remember this thread proposal was from an Oilers fan.

If I'm Ottawa I'm laughing all the way to the bank on this one. Even if you don't re-sign Bouchard, you easily come out miles ahead in this deal. You could flip him at the deadline for a much bigger haul if you're not in the playoff picture (most teams can easily fit a pro-rated 3.9m contract), or let a team offer sheet him in the off season and take your haul of 1st round picks.

If an equivalent trade (Hamilton for Bouchard) came along for NJD I would advocate for it in a literal heartbeat.

It would be instantly regarded as the dumbest trade of all time by edmonton, because there is simply no logic to it.

Even hall for larsson was a position change that filled a need.

Chabot just makes edmonton older, worse, and more expensive.

It appears from this board that a number of Ottawa fans don't understand the concept of an RFA, or arbitration.
