And is somehow upset because of a contract that doesn't even exist yet.

RFAs will get under whatever their market value is unless your GM is a moron. By suggesting Bouchard will get an atrocious deal as an RFA, sens fans suggest their GM is a moron

Actually he's going by the basis that Bouchard's numbers are inflated by playing with Mcdavid and Drai, something which Oilers fans tend to ignore when discussing Bouchard. And yes I prefer Sanderson over Bouchard its just my preference to have D-man who play both ways instead of being one dimensional like Bouchard is, and the Sens fans have already had an offense D-man on the team before his name is Karlsson and he's won 3 Norris trophys and scored 100 points before, if the Sens didn't keep him for 11m there def not going to take Bouchard who no offense he couldn't even hold prime Karlssons jock.

What stats do you have to back that up? Any?

Has Sanderson going through 4 playoff rounds as a stud number 1 defenceman?

Do you keep a picture of Bouchard in your locker?

Have you ever heard the expression the best defense is a good offense? Bouchard is the epitome of an ice-tilter. Is he the best defensive player in the defensive zone? No, not at all, but he has a good breakout pass and he dominates the neutral zone and the offensive zone in a way that naturally leads to a lot of puck possession when he is out there.

This post accurately describes Bouchard. He gets the puck moving in the right direction.

Away from all of McDavid, Draisaitl and Ekholm since the start of 2022-23 here are his 5 vs 5 numbers.

TOI 593:10 CF% 58.51 SF% 59.05 GF% 50 xGF% 60.01 SCF% 59.96 HDCF% 62.93

By comparison here are team numbers with none of the four on the ice:

TOI 3172:19 CF% 49.79 SF% 49.71 GF% 50.25 xGF% 50.66 SCF% 50.07 HDCF% 53.94

All of the possession numbers rise about 10 points when he is on the ice.

People see a few highlights of some big errors and conclude that he fits their stereotype. But the reality is that the Oilers are simply much better when he is on the ice regardless of who he is playing against.

As to the comparison with Sanderson, lets look at Sanderson over the last two years away from Zub, Stutzle and Tkachuk:

TOI 306:45 CF% 46.57 SF% 45.39 GF% 30.77 xGF% 39.91 SCF% 39.85 HDCF% 38.24

And for comparison sake the rest of the team away from the 4:

Sanderson does get more of a defensive deployment than Bouchard but there is little statistical evidence to support that he tilts the ice anywhere near how Bouchard does. Offensively, they are not in the same league.

As to the original proposal I doubt that the Oilers even consider it. I'll leave it to Ottawa fans to decide on their interest.

Okay, fair enough. Oilers need an upgrade on the 2nd pairing right side, and the OP trade doesn't do that.

This is a sad, tired argument. Posters who don't really understand the game or are just fans of their team and not the NHL make this claim all the time. Just replace Bouchard with a forward (like Hyman) and it's the same old refrain. It is also worth noting that it never applies to their players. Just the Oilers with Draisaitl and McDavid. Hell, Drai won the Hart and still doesn't any respect from a lot of Oiler haters out there.

Bouchard makes mistakes in his own zone. It drives me nuts when he does. They are very visible mistakes that often result in a scoring chance. Because the Oilers goaltending has been spotty these scoring chances often make it to the back of the net, highlighting a mistake that otherwise might have been forgiven by those watching the game. An inexperienced or lazy observer might just leave it at that.

Why does Bouchard make visible mistakes in his own end? Well, for one, he has the puck. He makes plays. He can skate the puck out of the Oilers zone or make a tape to tape pass to spring a forward up ice. When he gets into the offensive zone he can make a good pass for a scoring chance or unleash a hell of a slapshot. Oiler fans call it the Bouchbomb.

Bouchard isn't one dimensional like you claim. He can skate, pass and shoot. He has good vision on the ice and can make quick decisions with the puck. Coffey wants players who can make plays. Bouchard is that guy.

You won't see me bash Sanderson here or in any other thread. I'd have him on my team any day. But don't put down Bouchard with thoughtless arguments to build your guy up.

P.S. Any comment after "no offense" is always followed by something meant to give offense.
