I wanted to compare the bottom six production the Kings are receiving from their forwards versus the bottom six of other teams. It's going to include more than just six forwards given the number of players who cycle through those lines and I will strictly be adding up their goal totals.

Also should note that I am only tallying the goals scored for their current teams and not including goals scored by their former teams, so the goals Weise has scored with Montreal for instance will not count towards the goals he has scored as a Blackhawk.

I may edit this main topic to add more teams, but as of today, I chose these 10 teams, mostly from the Western Conference and a couple of the top Eastern Conference teams to provide as examples of the balanced scoring some teams are getting from their bottom six.

As we looked at in the other thread, I think it's interesting to see that, like Brown, each team seems to have one-two guys that slip up and down the lineup. Hard to find the 'true' bottom sixers in each lineup but many of them are producing similarly with a few exceptions. It's also interesting/important to look at percentage of total offense, as well as goals against. Just some thoughts--I know I wasn't able to complete the exercise before

Very interesting comparison, can you do one for goals against too?

It can be hard to kind of put an exact number on goals against, mainly because that number is going to come back really strangely skewed. Three players could be on the ice for one goal against, so it would show up on a raw GA number as one for each, or three, when reality it was only one.

Best thing to do would be to go by rate statistic on that sample, but I don't think there is a site that allows you to compile it by group. Looking on War on Ice right now, if I find something I'll post it.

15 of 9. You lost me there.

I mentioned these numbers in the PGT of the Ducks game. I am honestly surprised it's this many to be honest, but I think it's pretty skewed. King has played up with Carter a decent amount since his return and Brown and Vinny have a combined 6 PP goals. Take those away and it's pretty ugly.

Nolan, Clifford, Shore and Andreoff have played a combined 197 games and have 8 goals, 7 of those from Andy and Shore to show just how useless offensively Nolan and Clifford have been. Ivanans was more effective offensively.

MERSCH!!!!

In his first handful of games with Vinny, those two had MANY, SOLID opportunities. I honestly do not know why that combo ever ended.....

You'd have to know when they scored the goals too. Like Lecavalier for example. Last night he scored, but he was on what I imagine is the 2nd line, even though Toffoli doesn't play hockey anymore. 4 of his other goals were on the PP. So at most he has 1 goal in a bottom 6 type role. Lewis has a couple empty net goals. Brown has a couple PP goals, a PS goal, I think the one against Boston he was out there with Kopitar and Lucic.

Gaborik might actually have a few bottom 6 goals.

It's way too difficult to track and 35 sounds like a high number because it probably is. Dustin Brown was already mentioned but how about Lecavalier? Lecavalier has 6 goals, 4 of those 6 came on the power play, one of them was last night when he wasn't playing bottom 6 minutes and 1 of the was on a 6-5 with an open net vs the Sharks. Idk if any of those count as bottom 6 goals.

System has a lot to do with it, but I would bet the Kings have one of the lowest production percentage from the bottom 6 in the league. Not really a surprise that the Kings and Ducks rely on their top two lines given their defensive structure.

5v5 would be interesting. For example, the Kings production percentage of the bottom 6 at ES jumps to 26.5% (30/113).

I think that most teams have bottom 6'ers that float around, so that would be more or less balanced for all teams. All coaches have some sort of line blender they use.

The title of the thread is funny. What offense. Stats are off do to Brown getting PP time and time with Anze.

Still we need to fix this and losing Vinnie at only 2.25 a year will not help. I hope we get 1 more year of him. He bolsters that 2nd PP as well.

I do believe the addition of Mersch and the loss of Lewis will add offense. We have too many plugs in the bottom 6 and not enough goals in the top 6 to support putting out the offensively challenged like Lewis, Clifford, Nolan, and for some reason Shore. Brown at least tries and if he was making 3 to 4 mill a year to hit, score a bit and be the captain I would be fine with him but 5.8 is killing us.

Clifford is paid a million to much and can be replaced by Nolan, AndyA, or Mersch at a lot cheaper price.

King as a 3rd line LW is awesome but I think we have a more talented guy in Mersch at half the price. I love Kings versability up and down the lineup if needed and the awesome troll face but I believe he would bring back a nice piece and free up room.

Clifford and Nolan just aren't doing it this year. Yea, injuries, etc., but both of them have been here a while and 10 points with 1 goal between them in 92 games isn't enough. Expectations are higher than that, and with guys like Mersch waiting in the wings their jobs are anything but safe at this point. I don't think Mersch will be Kings replacement, but rather Clifford or Nolan, and as early as next year. King isn't going to have a ton of value as he will be a pending UFA, while Clifford and Nolan are signed to friendly contracts.

I love both of them, but guys like Dowd & Kempe are going to force the Kings to make room.

Hopefully Dowd, Kempe, Mersch, and Shore can make an impact on the bottom 6. I don't believe we'll see Lewis back next year, but who knows.
