Before the season started, I really wanted him traded because he provides 0 offence come playoff time whether it’s on the 1st or 3rd line

Problem is our depth options can’t produce even in the regular season, which is something he could do

We might actually need him in a third line role.
Exactly this, disappeared his entire career in the playoffs, but we could use him now lol.

It's more frustrating that it will take about 10 years for them to start the next rebuild.
Further proof that Matthews carries Marner.

Leafs have some big cap hits, but those 4 have factored into 82% of the team's goals this year. We have enough cap space left over that we should be getting more than we are.
And yet we lose every year. That formula simply does not work in the NHL. The team needs a major rebalance but as long as Shanny is running the show that’s never gonna happen. Once these 4 clowns age out we will be starting the next tank and rebuild

Bruins, Panthers, Sens and Habs (also Jets but lol we have their number past 6 times)

Tampa, Sabres, Red wings are the three teams who dont seem to get a boner trying to beat us no matter what the game is

Sens need to take a seat, but can't really say shit about the other 3. All have recently eliminated the Leafs in a playoff series

I’m looking forward to it as long as we have different management.

Bottom line is the dollar cost average on what the Leafs pay is suboptimal with a very thin margin of error at all levels.

Big guns make glamour money, but across the league in comparison with the Big 4, there’s always someone around the league getting better value. Like NYR gets more out of Panarin than the Leafs with Marner or Tavares. Edmonton gets more out of Draisaitl than Matthews. Colorado gets more out of Mackinnon than Matthews. Pastrnak is always in the Nylander ballpark for salary but he’s competitive with Matthews. Florida and Tampa are literally playing by different rules.

The only place where Toronto has done pretty well is get serviceable mileage out of their cheap goalies. But even that falls apart once the stress test of the playoffs happens.

Again I get it but management signed the ones they could to those contracts with NMCs, it doesn’t matter if we like it or not it is what it is. The rest of the money available is what it is, it needs to be optimized and so far paying for the best UFA depth available has had middling results at best. Florida didn’t fill out their depth with premium UFAs, they got waiver claims and reclamation projects. We haven’t gone for a Bennet/Reinhart trade and it’s not for a lack of money, our pro scouting just sucks.

We’re not getting a Nichushkin/Lehkonen/Reinhart in UFA regardless of whether we have 4 mil per player or 2mil per player to spend.

Have to go 3-1 on this 4 game homestand against the Atlantic.

Getting a win tonight would be ideal
