This isn't a "non-story" to the tax bar. This is actually a very interesting case (for someone like me anyway). The Bruins actually appear to have a pretty good argument, just from my cursory reading of the 274 regs (this isn't an issue I've ever had to research previously, and I don't plan on it now). This is an actual story for tax attorneys and tax accountants and should be for professional sports franchises, given the concept of stare decisis

Uhh, in what way are we the tax payers footing the bill? Last I checked, the Bruins are paying the check and giving the tip. Nothing is coming out of my pocket, and my tax rate isn't going up because of it. It is a really big stretch to equate being fiscally responsible by taking advantage of tax laws to the Bruins taking money out of the pockets of the tax payers. A really, really big stretch. If you want to blame something for ripping off the tax payers, blame the hopelessly bloated government.

Hence "Microcosm".

If the Bruins and every other NHL team are able to write off these expenses, scratch that, when any big business manages to write off any frivolous expenditures, who do you inevitably think pays for that (or at least a portion of it). Someone has to. It isn't going to be the hopelessly bloated government and it isn't going to be the big business.

It's this reasoning that has lead to 18 trillion in debt.

Any who, this is perilously close to conversation that is better suited for the business board.

I'm happy for JJ, this is probably bigger to him than winning the Stanley Cup.

Who's responsible for inducting this guy into the HHoF?

I try and pay as little taxes as humanly possible.. why do we act holier-than-thou when someone else/a business does it?

Because I'm guessing JJ and his Florida mansion have a little more to go around. He shouldn't be acting like a single mom trying to save up to buy her kid a present at Christmas.

He has the right to decrease his tax base as any of us would.
He has earned his wealth as a good business man.
For those that whine, yes whine, about him making money off them please forward me photos of the gun barrel bruises against your temples. Ive been looking for this proof for decades now.

For surely, surely, he has forced this upon those masses.

You're right, just sucks for people that can't afford to go to games. I was in Boston a couple weeks ago for the first time in years and stopped at the pro shop on the way back to the Amtrak. I go to look at the jerseys thinking since Adidas is making them maybe they'll have a sale. I look at a price tag and see $160(?) normal price crossed out and they were like $240. Sure he's allowed to sell all that for as much as he wants, but I'm going to think it's ridiculous. But hey, if arenas are selling out then I guess he's doing something right?

I actually agree with the ruling, but I also enjoy trolling JJ and saw an opportunity to respond in fashion to what I found to be some pretty humorous digs at the man's long-known reputation. I can't speak for anyone else.

I never begrudge anyone that earns or builds what they have fair , square and legal.

More power to 'em.

The more deductions billionaires can take the less for infrastructure. You make a certain amount you shouldn't get the same kinds of deductions. I can't even claim college tuition because "I make too much"

Then change the tax code.

Until then if its above board Im all for it.
Otherwise it wreaks of petty jealously to me.

But thats me.

I don't think it's jealousy. How much is JJ worth? I know if I had $$2-5M I'd be set for life. Once you get over $10M it gets weird, I wouldn't even know how to spend it in one lifetime.

There's truth to what you say though. If you don't like the prices he sets, don't buy what he's selling. Apparently there's a market for $240 jerseys. I'm glad I bought my Chara jersey on sale years ago for $120.

I thought similar when I was your age. Its all relative. What fits for you wont fit for others so your expectations arent valid outside of yourself.

Btw, 2 million is peanuts in my relative world.

I see your point. I've been working on selling a couple products on Amazon recently so I'm starting to understand why people hate taxes. It's not so bad when you have an employer and it's all taken care of by someone else, but when it's your profits you want to keep as much as possible. I see both sides. Maybe we can both agree that the government wastes a lot of tax dollars that could be allocated to more iseful things like infrastructure and education without raising anyone's taxes.
