That's a good value deal right there when you compare to what other D-men were getting last year.

Long term top pair for Boston comes in at $16 million per year. Not bad.

Wondering what the trade protection clauses look like in this deal, specifically did he get an NMC or an NTC and is it just for certain years.

You're suggesting they break up literally the best top pairing in the league by every metric?

Some of you guys really overestimate Lindholm - he's not who he used to be. He's probably a #4 defenseman.

Absolute bargain. That’s gotta sting for Anaheim fans

Not at all. Anaheim still has Maxime Comtois and Rakell to trade this deadline. Looking at what Giroux got? Rakell will get a package like that. And I imagine Anaheim will get a 2nd/3rd for Comtois. Anaheim will have a crap ton of picks and the most cap space in the NHL this summer.

How’s this bad for Anaheim? Anaheim fans are sitting back with a Cigar right now chilling till the summer

Then, the price should be just $3-4M.

It's really interesting to see what's going on around the league right now.

I think part of it is related to investing in players who will be good enough to justify their contract early on, and then good enough to justify a contract that will drop in relative value as the cap goes up over the next 3 or 4 years.

This is a bold move. But teams seem to be recognizing that elite cores don't come along every decade and so they are going for it with the ones they have. Pittsburgh, Washington, Tampa, Boston, to an extent you could say Florida and Toronto. Vegas as another example for sure.

I like this investment though, Lindholm is one of those stout defence men who can neutralize his side of the ice against just about any line. We had one of those in Tanev and his loss is deeply felt. He and McAvoy are going to be an elite top pairing for at least 5 or 6 years I would think.

6.5 milllion for him is a great way to double down on the Bergeron Marchand core, and then provide a spine to the next build that involves Pasta, Hall, McAvoy, etc.

Wow this is a steal for Boston - Rielly signed for 7.5M with Leafs and it was considered a hometown discount.

Lindholm def could have got a lot more on the open market - seems Bruins were a preferred destination for him after all

I'll miss the guy, but seeing how Ducks very clearly need more time rebuilding, giving him 8 years would've HAMPERed the future. Best of luck to Boston this year!

You pay greater taxes in Canada, that's why. In Boston, you won't pay so much.

Like I said in a other thread it fits the Bruins time-line perfectly. The possible bad parts of this contract line up with Bergeron and Marchands inevitable decline perfectly and at that point who cares.

I know some Bruin fans wanna just rebuild but you literally got gifted a 40 point agitator that transformed into a top 5 forward and the best two way player to exist with later round picks.

Need a upgrade at 2c but your core is the same one that was 1 game from a cup just a couple years ago. Couple tweaks and this club is a threat as much as I hate to say and this tweak is a step forward.

thats really good value if its true. hes only just turned 28.
"He's only just turned 28" is very rarely something positive when signing a player to a 8 years contract. Not all players age differently obviously, but that's generally (i.e. on average) when players start declining - not when they hit their peak.

If he can play like he did when the ducks were good, and if injuries don't derail his career, i think he can live up to this contract for the most part of it (i.e. until 4-5 years into it). Hard to tell what the cap will be by then.
