Carlo will be due 24.6m over six years—or, in other words, he is due 0.5 OELs over six years.
Good because he provides less than half the offence OEL provides. And less defence to boot. Comparing him to OEL is really weird. OEL might not have the numbers he did earlier in his career but I don’t think you’ve watched any Arizona games. He’s still a very skilled dman and much better than Carlo.

I was just stating a numerical fact.

For example, during the next six years, I will get paid less than 0.02 OELs. I provide less offense and less defense than OEL (or Carlo) too.

6 x 4.1M is a good deal for the Bruins. Fair value now, but a discount if he improves or when the cap goes up. Very little risk he'll underperform that contract.

Haven't watched Carlo a lot. I'd assume he brings a lot more to the table than his offensive output would indicate?

Really only big question is health, because value wise it's great.

Sucks when one of your top D is always injured and you're trying to keep contending with an aging core.

He does. He's one of the best shutdown d-men in the league. On the right side you've got McAvoy and then Carlo. Doubt the offence will ever show up and wouldn't mind if he threw a few more punishing hits - but he's really effective out there, you trust him, and he takes a lot of the defensive heavy-lifting from McAvoy.
He's one of those guys you take for granted but notice his absence when he has been hurt as The Bruins d just isn't the same when he's not hopping over the boards.

I'm a little wary of concussions taking their toll, but otherwise this seems like a great contract (and potential steal if he continues to improve). Medium risk-high reward.
