For the second year in a row, the wings miss the playoffs while having 90+ points.

If they go through another “lose 9 or 11” or whatever, LaLonde gets canned at the TDL while the team makes an internal push for the playoffs.

It's weird because I wanna say we're worse this year after overachieving last season... But last season we also had two atrocious months in December and March.

- Christian Fischer will get injured - Carter Mazur will be called up and never looks back.

- Rasmussen will find a role from different line than Copp, and Motte-Copp-Mazur is the shut-down line after Fischer-injury.

- Vlad Tarasenko won't work at all on left wing, but will find a great chemistry as RW with LW Jonatan Berggren feeding him.

- One of the Middle6 forwards will get injured - Marco Kasper will be called up and never looks back.

- Veleno + Gustafsson + prospect will be traded for Jacob Trouba at the trade deadline. Gustafsson is familiar player from last season, to help their oncoming cap problems, and cheap Veleno is Lafreniere's former linemate, they like ro rebuild that chemistry.

- After Trouba-trade, Edvinsson will be promoted to 2nd PP and Johansson-Petry becomes the 3rd pair.

Chiarot - Seider
Edvinsson - Trouba
Johansson - Petry

Copp scores ten goals in October and then none the rest of the season. The board goes borderline nuclear on multiple occasions, but eventually reaches detente and rallies around another home stretch push for a playoff spot after a surprise addition at the trade deadline.

Edvinsson will emerge as the left handed version of Seider.

Finish the season 8th-10th in the Conference.

Lalonde will clean out his office in April (unless the Red Wings make the playoffs then he'll get an extension )...

This is always fun. Did we check to see if any of the bold prediction came true last season?

Here's mine:

We'll make the playoffs and get 98 points
Kane hits 100 points
Larkin hits 90 points
Seider hits 60 points and gets Norris votes
Edvinsson hits 40 points
Raymond hits 40 goals
Danielsson joins after Christmas and is close to PPG.
Husso doesn't have any long term injury issues

I'll try too

We hit 95 points and either miss the playoffs or WC2, despite significant statistical improvements
Tank gets moved to third line, first with JV and Berggren, has good success
JV then gets traded (along with Lyons and Viro) by Christmas for RHD (Husso healthy for the the year)
Kasper gets called up to take that slot full time
Wings improve defensive play to reduce GA to around 240 for the season
GF falls to around 265
Injuries get some major cups of coffee (10-20 games) for Mazur, Danielson and Holl
Not very bold, but by the TDL, Al-Jo is Mo's partner for even strength minutes

  • Wings take the #7 spot in the post season and make it to the 2nd round.
  • Raymond scores 40
  • Edvinsson begins to dominate play in the 2nd half to the point the echos of "it's a shame he doesn't qualify for the Calder" are uttered in every hockey circle.
  • Kane scores 25
  • Larkin plays all 82, well 80. He sits the last 2 games because the spot is locked.
  • Husso goes uninjued. He and Talbot become a solid duo.
  • Lyon is moved at the deadline.
  • Berggren and Veleno join Lyon for whatever is needed. (Could also be Mazur is part of a deal.)
  • Kasper and ND do not get 10 games with the big club.

Larkin misses 20+ games with an injury.

Talbot represents Detroit in the ASG.

Kane and Tarasenko will be traded at the deadline.

Austin Watson finishes the season with 300 PIMS.

Yzerman's pot smoking habit will become a major story and will result in his eventual resignation.

Lalonde gets fired in the offseason by our new GM, Nicklas Lidstrom.

Breaking news article by the Athletic's Katie Strang: The "future considerations" from the Walman trade are learned to be about 20 pounds of primo California ganja.

I'll do one in either direction.

Wings finish last in the Atlantic and miss the playoffs by 15+ points. Top 5 pick in June.

Wings finish 3rd in the Atlantic and Yzerman trades for a top addition at the deadline like Ehlers or Shea Theodore.

This seems like a very realistic best case/worst case scenario...
