One thing I'll add about tonight, is that the much maligned Logan Stanley lead the team in both CF% at 72.73% and xGF% of 85.88% tonight (according to Natural Stat Trick).
I don't want to rag on Stanley especially since that's pretty all he gets on here, but he sure did try to give away the shutout on the last shift of the game. Full possession in his own zone and he gave it right to a Blues player. Other than that he had a really solid game.

The only blemish on an otherwise solid game by him. The team still has issues with puck management, but they did a much better job of it last night. At least they made the Blues have their own issues with puck management, which was nice to see.

Ya that wasn't a good play but all in all that was easily one of the best games i've seen him play.

Great game and lot's of kudos to go around.

One of the big things for me was a complete improvement in the team's play at their own blueline. I don't have any metrics to back it up, but I didn't see many examples last night of weak plays near our blueline leading to turnovers while wingers are already out of the zone leading to chances and extended defensive zone time. That to me has been an Achilles heel for this team and it was good to not see it last night.

When you say technically you make it sound like some other team below the Jets in the standings is actually better. But all the teams actually have lower points percentages and worse goal differential.
Mostly I said technically because we are only 6 games into the season and it is way too far out it to have any real meaning.

STL might also not be as good as their record going into last night indicated. CBJ, CHI, SEA, and EDM ss their prior 4 teams faced doesn't really merit them as a first place team in the central as those are bottom half teams save for EDM.

Well tonight the Jets get 4/5 Hammers would of been 5/5 but the first wasn't that great, Helle with the Bagel, Barron scoring, KFC getting close, Wheeler spinning his wheels, Scheifele with a hot start to the year and value signing Gagne making the Jets look good

Caught this on the replay and thought it was a terrific example of tactical hockey leading to a strong points victory even before the Gagner knockout, much like watching a very smart smaller boxer go to work against a less technically gifted one-puncher.

Lots of good stuff to focus on, and you guys have covered all of it, but special shoutouts to KFC, who missed a few more but created an absolute ton, and 55 who I didn't think gave up on a play all night long, and scored an underrated beauty. Apples kept up and made some great holding plays, and all 3 other lines played near the top of their game to seal it. I've said a few times that Perfetti plays like a centre no matter where he lines up, and I think we've seen that this season already. For a kid who's all of 20 years old he plays as complete a game as we've seen for a long time now and once his "wingers" learn to shoot will be racking up the points. Yeah, empty netter -- but for him it's absolutely earned.

Thought Biiig Logan played a way more sold and less chaotic game beside The Rookie Whisperer, and coming back after that stinger showed serious commitment.

Special Whirling Tanev Award to The Swedish Flow, who was everywhere at all times making all kinds of snow-showers and fury signifying a... little bit. Good to have another disrupter in the fold.

Can the Pack of Wolves have returned to howl another day? This game felt way more like the Jets' hockey of yesteryear, when we were actually good, and could wear down a team with speed, cycling, passing and sheer bloodyminded puck possession before delivering the rapier. So nice to see again.

Also, today's post is sponsored by the Number 4. The Jerts' results thus far:

- 4-1 W
- 4- 1 L
- 4-3 W
- 5-2 L
- 4-1 L
- 4-0 W

- Sooooo, if my toddler maths are correct, these Jets have won or lost in 5/6 games this season with a winning score of 4. So, 4ward me lads, with intestinal 4titude and high-energy 4-checking, onto 4tune!

First game of the year I was at and it was a fun one

I think the Blues and Jets match up well. They want to do the same thing we want to. Roll 4 lines and play short shifts. Pressure the strong side and have a forward pressing back hard on the back check. I thought the first was some what even maybe the Blues had the edge but we have them 2 power plays but Helly was good and we didn't give them anything really easy in the middle of the ice

We were really physical again and I mean not one or two guys but everyone all over the ice. You can really tell when a team buys in when you have a guy like Connor finishing his checks. We really put a lot of pressure on their D as the game went along and they just got tired and made bad decisions as the game went along. The Jets really took advantage several times when Krug,Faulk or Leddy where going back for the puck. We ended up with the puck as they backed off and it led to chances and eventually goals.

Got to say I hope Gagner stays playing with Lowry and Barron. Really thought that as a line they had some chemistry and Gagner gives them a bit of finesse while the big men really worked it down low. For me they were a difference maker and we need that.

The top 2 lines were really good and their shift length and decision making was excellent as the game went along. I was surprised by how physical they played and that is likely a result of shorter shift lengths allowing them to actually play physical. Anyone who has ever played can tell throwing a hit tires you out.

I love Perfetti. I was with a non hockey fan last night and his comment was "that guy really knows where everyone is on the ice" and he really does. His zone entries for a guy who "can't skate" where excellent and I am begging that some day maybe Wheeler can shoot and Dubois can stop hitting the posts because he should have at least double his points right now.

All 6 D were very good tonight. Really reading the play well and not panicking under pressure. They really made an effort to just get the puck out if there was pressure and reset and they were all extremely physical on the Blues better players. It was a great game by Stanley because he didn't play a ton and when he did he really kept it simple. He made some smart safe decisions that extended the plays for the Jets and I hope he can keep doing that going forward.

From my point of view they really skated and physical wore the Blues out and eventually the Ice titled so much it was only a matter of time. Credit to the Blues goalie he was rock solid. We should have had 2 or 3 more and we hit the post twice I think?

I’ve really been impressed with Barron this year. He definitely has some offensive upside. he’s had some good looks this year and finally something went in. Lambert, Baron and a second is downright criminal for 25 games of Copp. Not to mention copp has done nothing this year as of yet. Maybe he truly is a 3rd liner.

The last part is what I truly feel is Copp's game: 3C, but can fill in occasionally on the 2nd line due to injury, but you wouldn't want him there for long. The success he achieved on the Rangers was probably good chemistry with Panarin.

Don't get me wrong, I like Copp's game, but he's just a good 3rd line player.

Lambert + Barron+ was a *very* nice return.

It's pretty impressive how good Cole is at his age. He's miles ahead of Mark at the same age and plays a more complete game then Conner/Ehlers at the same point in his development.

Absolutely.

And Lambert / 2nd aside, Barron has some of Copp's attributes and then some. Maybe not quite as versatile yet, but another smart player with reliably good positioning, decent passing, speed and size and a notable scoring touch. I think he only improves as he gets a bit more freedom within the "checking role" line he's on, and having Gagner there can't hurt. I liked him on the Jets, loved him on the Moose during their playoff run and expect him to ramp up as the season progresses.

8-10 goals for Big Morgan plus 12-15 or more from SamGagn is a difference maker based on our bottom sixes for the last few years.

Agreed. That was one of the best games I've seen in a long while. If they can consistently play like that with all 4 lines contributing with solid defense and A game Helly, we just might be much better then most believe.

Oddly, the real test might be games against lesser opponents. Jets have had a habit of playing up, or down, to their opposition. If they can break that pattern and play like last night more often than not, this is going to be a fun season.

Considering the teams they've played and the new systems, 3-3 is a pretty solid start. First complete game of the season, hopefully a sign of things to come.

That third period was ripe for a "Jets take their foot off the gas and get ran over" kind of period but they just took over and shut out the Blues.

Get Ehlers back, Connor finds a way to get a damn goal and we might have something .

Nice to see the third line get one.

He is going to be an immensely valuable player very soon. His development has me much more optimistic about life after PLD. Can an aging Mark Schiefele and a prime Perfetti form the 1a - 1b center depth a contender needs? The sky is the limit for Perfetti. He's only going to get stronger and faster over the next several years.

So when Ehlers comes back does that make Wheeler a little redundant on this team.
Appleton plays well on the 1st. Ehlers on the 2nd. Leave the 3rd line alone and Wheeler doesn’t really fit on the 4th line. All though it would allow Wheeler to eat up lower competition. Would the Jet’s be better without him? Is having Wheeler on the 4th line a luxury we can afford? Can we move him realistically? He has played well but he is being passed by younger cheaper players.
