What's the realistic trade for Tyler Johnson, anyway?

Young, cheap talent. Yzerman's preferred combination of Fabbri/Kyrou/Thompson/Schmaltz/Bokk/Kostin/Mikkola/Walman/Sanford/Foley/etc.

Maybe you could send back Sobotka to make it a larger deal, but Yzerman has so much flexibility and depth, if the price for Johnson is too much, maybe you take Killorn if he comes with Cedric Paquette. There's a deal to be had there somewhere.

Yeah...but 'endorsing' $6M/year would have made me throw-up in my mouth a little...so I had to take the 'under'. I'm sure the Blues have the money to make it work, if that's a path they want to explore.
I'd pass on JVR personally. Someone is going to make him very rich.

I don't know, but I don't like JVR gamestyle. He can't carry the linemates and relies on heavily his linemates. Majority of his goals are garbage goals, rebounds. He does creates space front of net, but is he worth of that much? Playing with Marleu and Marner did help his goal totals a lot.

Tyler Johnson- probably the second-best option to ROR. next year's first + a prospect not named thomas or kyrou +depth player, all day. logically Yzerman should deal him this week, but he's so good with cap circumvention...if any GM could get by with keeping Johnson, it's him. Fingers Crossed.

JVR: he's a supplementary piece. Most of his goals come from getting in the gritty areas and getting dirty goals. That's a skillset we could use, but not more than a 2c...and he's going to take a massive overpay to get him and I'm not really optimistic about him being reliable after the next 3-4 years.

Why couldn't we go after someone like EK65 to stack our defense even more and with a stacked defense we could afford to run with all of our young kids at forward like Thomas and Kyrou?

Edit: It probably sounds like a dumb idea but we could trade somebody like Dunn, Walman, Edmundson, Schmaltz maybe 2 of them if they want, throw another forward prospect in but not Thomas or Kyrou, a 1st round pick for next year, and another conditional 1st round pick for 2020 or 2021 contingent if we resign him or not.

Tampa isn’t going to need anything on the left side for D. They’re likely going to dump what is, to me, still a decent project in Slater Koekkoek. However, they are very much in need on the right side. Tyler Johnson plus isnt enough for someone of Parayko’s caliber, but I do wonder if someone like Schmaltz carries enough value to them to find a way to meet in the middle, with some adds on our end. Especially if they go into 7/1 with the idea that they have a punchers chance at Tavares.

If they know before Saturday that Tavares wants to play there, I could see a Johnson + Stralman for Parayko deal getting the job done. Stralman would only have one year left (and this is assuming we are on his 16 team list) so he wouldn't add a ton of value, but getting Parayko would give them extended cost certainty at RD while shedding cap space. We may have to add a pick or someone like Blais/Walman.

Trade for Tyler Johnson. Sign JVR for 4yr @ $5.8M:

JVR-Johnson-Tarasenko
Schwartz-Schenn-Fabbri
Steen-Thomas-Berglund
Barbashev-Brodziak-Soshnikov

I've wanted JVR since the 2014 Olympics. He has a great nose for the net and is a really solid offensive power forward. He would score 25-30 goals a year in STL playing with those centers.

I'd have no problem going up to 5 years for him, too. He's only 29.
