3rd game in a row where they fell down 2-0 and only played 20mins at most

At least, The Blues go home now to recover from this horrible road trip to New York, where they used to play so well. I guess this is a wake-up call that they need to play with a LOT of energy and use their big bodies to keep free-skating teams from breaking out against them. Ottawa at home is a much-needed tonic. But they'll need to upgrade their play several notches to stay in a decent playoff position.

At this point I have no problem standing pat at the deadline unless our play picks up over the next couple weeks. Making a huge trade just for the sake of shaking things up, hoping it gets us out of this funk isn't a wise move.
I had stated in the proposal thread that I trust Army to make a bold somewhat risky move at the deadline if he truly believes we are a Lindholm type player away from a deep run. As it stands at this moment, we are much further from that than a ballsy move to be taken seriously as contenders.

We got 1 more point than we deserved.

That's for sure. I actually thought they might steal two points with that late PP opportunity but guess not. Mikkola in the doghouse, replaced by Walman in the third. ROR line was a non factor all night and far too many cute plays and passes instead of playing straightforward hockey.

Glad we are coming home because that three game road trip was ass.

curious, what else do you think they're missing and where would that player fit in?

I agree 100%. I don't want them to give up draft capital, which will be needed to infuse this relatively old, and relatively slow team with young, fast, skilled players, just to add a solid, high-salaried LD on the older side of his prime, to possibly win one more series, only to be slaughtered by Colorado because we can't keep up with their speed. What this team needs is more young, skilled players both at forward and on defence. Giving up high draft choices just slows down that rejuvenating process, when we need D. Armstrong to actually speed up that process, by adding extra higher draft choices, and getting back more higher-skilled youth in trades by trading off older players.

It seems that we are in a state of identity limbo. We appear to be evolving to a skilled/speed and transition team but are neglecting fundamentals and abandoning or cheating the game by trying to take shortcuts to get there.
I believe it's possible to be both with the right personnel. A team that is responsible/productive in all 3 zones yet electric enough to generate offense at the flip of a switch.

I think of the '04 Flames. Now, obviously that was some time ago and we are a much better roster on paper as well as on the ice (most of the time) But that team was difficult to play against because of their ability to push the puck up the ice with clean crisp breakouts exiting their zone and completely bought in to an all around responsible team game. Kiprusoff was also Godlike in those days, so that shouldn't be understated.

I'm not going to offer specific names of who we should look at and where they fit in capwise. It's been talked about to exhaustion at this point. However, I'm starting to believe the best route to go as far as defensive upgrades it targeting multiple productive players rather than going after one big fish. A fourth line upgrade in the Clutterbuck or Barclay Goodrow mold would also be a welcome addition, imo.
