Oh I agree I don't think the value is good on Brown. But I've always liked the player and always have time for hard working, lunch pail type guys.

I think Emberson, after a rocky start, has settled nicely into the third pair with room to grow. Whether he does or not is in the air, but so far I'm okay with him in that role. He's cheap and young.

That said I'm not saying you're wrong, just that I disagree a bit.
I agree with your disagree!

I'm an Oiler fan and I didn't like our offseason at all and many did. So I thought I'd look at it now that we've finally got back to playoff position and are seemingly playing better (at least temporarily). I do think we have a strong team that should make the playoffs but we need some trades and LTIR shenanigans.

Offseason moves
The good

Signed Janmark to 3 years - it's aging really well, he's improved
Noah Philp - great signing, low cost and low impact though

Cory Perry to 1 year - 4 points in 17 games - better than meh
Jeff Skinner to one year - 6 points in 17 games and in top 10 - better than meh

The bad

Signed Calvin Pickard to 2 years - meh
Connor Brown for another year (and a caphit from last season on our current season) - 4 pts in 17 games. meh
Viktor Arviddson to 2 years - 5 points in 16 games - meh
Vasily Podkolzin - 3 points in 17 games and a really nice fight. meh

Troy Stecher to two years - 13 games, 0 points, TOI is 14 - between meh and dogshit

The ugly

Ty Emberson - 1 point in 15 games, a minus 5 and TOI is 14. Dogshit
Josh Brown to 3 years - maybe the worst offseason contract? dogshit
Adam Henrique to 2 years - 2 points in 17 games. dogshit

Lost Broberg - Ouch
Lost Holloway - Ouch
Lost McLeod - Ouch

Undetermined
Matt Savoie for McLeod - TBD - Savoie could be a solution for Top 6 or a great trade piece for D help
Raphael Lavoie to a 1 year contract - he's in Vegas for free

My opinion is that Jackson and Bowman shit the bed badly. We still need D, a backup goalie to push Stu and probably some forwards.

What does everyone else think?
I have to disagree with you about J Skinner being good.
We all knew he sucks when it comes to playing defense but you can usually learn to live with that if the player is contributing offensively. He isn't. Right now he's tied for the worst +/- on the team at -7. The next closest player is less than half that at -3. So how is he doing offensively? Well.. he has 6 pts in 17 games and in the last 13 games he has 1 goal and 1 assist. Skinner got the bulk of his pts in the first four games of the season.
Right now he sucks at both offense and defense. He's not good.

By far the most criticized take of mine. If I did it again, I'd move him to 'meh'. I agree with everyone. He may even end up in 'dogshit'.

Meh. Added some offensive guys who were reclamation type prospects and didn’t really address their biggest weaknesses on D and in net. Expecting J. Skinner, Arvidsson and Henrique to move the needle much seemed optimistic. RNH and Hyman were both obvious candidates for regression.
With McDrai the team is always going to be a threat to go on a playoff run like last year but a lot needs to go right for that to happen. Overall they just don’t have the depth that other top contenders have. Losing Holloway and especially Broberg was a huge blunder imo.

I thought that losing both Foegele and McLeod would be a huge blow. Now that their PK is last in the league...can't say I feel any different. They need to seriously consider putting some money down for something like a Joel Armia or Branden Tanev.

And now no nurse.. after EJ and bouch is nothing but bottom pair guys. Nurse is certainly hated but he's much better than everyone behind him.

It's goaltending. Oilers PK was middling last reg. season, took off during the playoffs with Janmark, Brown, Henrique, RNH being the main PK guys. This year just can't get a save from their goalies. Pickard is currently saving only 57% of the shots he faces on the PK.
