I feel we don't have as much extravagant highlight reel goals like we did previous eras - Jajr, Sundin, Lemieux etc. I don't watch as much hockey now though, so there's my disclaimer.

I would assume the base skill level has dramatically increased? Or the game has become more codified?

I saw we do. The game looks way better now too. Those Leaf highlights from 20 years ago looked so slow and nowhere near the same quality we get now.
