That's just not how the NHL does reviews. I'm aware of how camera angles work, but thanks for the rundown. The NHL has to see conclusive evidence that the puck is across the line. You cannot logically infer or cite the parallax effect to overturn a call. It also is not a foregone conclusion that the puck is surely in from that angle because of parallax. That's just an assumption. The angle on the overhead view is marginally offset, it's not reasonable to just assume it would be enough of a difference for the puck to be completely across.

This particular technical debate in the wake of last night’s shellacking might find a more receptive audience on the mains rather than HFJets…

Brutal game but this team has out-resilience’d previous Jets lineups all season long. Let’s see it again in Game 4, ideally with a healthier lineup.

JAD is good. Great passer and good speed, I was initially underwhelmed with this pickup but he clearly has an extra gear and can contribute. Props to him.

Holy moly though, everyone else played like ass.
The game definitely got to Helly's head and I hope he can bounce back. Lots of mistakes from D men ended up in the back of the net so he's not 100% to blame I guess.

Seems like a lot of goalies shitting the bed in the playoffs this year though.

Helly 6GA yesterday
Hill 5GA yesterday
Skinner 5GA Wednesday
Vasy 6GA/Hill 5GA Tuesday
Kuemper 5GA/Skinner 6GA Monday
Ullmark 6GA Sunday
Binner 5GA/Blackwood 5GA Saturday
In terms of Quality Starts, Hellebuyck's had a grand total of 2 in his last 13 playoff games over the last 3 years (1 vs. Vegas in 2023, and Game 2 of this series vs. the Blues). Small samples, shit happens, etc., but still..."Hey, he's no worse than Skinner and Ullmark" is cold comfort.

I'm not sure what it is with him. He played well under the pressure at Four Nations, and he performed well in the playoffs once upon a time, but it's becoming a recurring problem with him. Small sample size, yes, but at some point he's got to overcome this.

Yup. I'd say outside of last night our core sans of Helle is playing to expectations.

He needs to be way better. Heck I'd take average starting goaltending this series as a stepping stone.

We might be able to win Helle this series but if he doesn't gwt his game in order we are doomed.

I just don't get the NHL sometimes.
Lets just say those that are in charge of optimizing evidence-based outcomes are living in the 1960's with respect to the available technology.

Pucks have infrared sensors in them that are tracked by cameras. They should be able to easily identify where a puck is by maping where that signature is on plays like this. They don't need to look through meshing or what not.

Do you ascribe to the belief that he just gets worn down by the time the playoffs come around? I don't necessarily, but curious on your thoughts.

And how have you liked Gus Bus's game?

And lastly, do you prefer gummy bears or gummy worms?

Thank you in advance.

It seems all mental with Helle. No idea if it's just a block or if he's mentally worn out by the time the playoffs start.

As people have mentioned it seems like he's playing too deep in his net which seems more like a confidence issue then a fatigue one.

Gus has been pretty good in his role.

Gummy worms all day!

You know what? I have to be honest, this one was on me. Yesterday, my fantasy replay hockey team was playing a "win in regulation and you're in" last game of the regular season. Up 3-2 with six minutes left in the third, one of our league-leading PK squad (Zadorov) took a five minute major, followed shortly by another one of our team (McCarron) getting in a fight and getting hauled off the ice for five minutes.

I don't know if you can imagine the clench of killing off two solid minutes of PK time with Alexander Ovechkin, Timo Meier, and Darnell Nurse as 3/4 of your PK, but since we won, CLEARLY I exhausted all the good luck in my nearby hockey space.

Of course this is a ridiculous analysis, but hey, it's sports, so as long as your bullshit is convincing it's better than reality, right?

So yeah, I'm sorry, and trust me, we're good.

I didn't see the game last night but think I get the gist of it :eek3:

Without Ehlers and Vilardi, we really only have one scoring line and Pionk without Samberg is not the same defender. We are going to have to grind this series out till we get some or all of our depth back.

For me, it's now not about Helle or Scheif or even Stanley, but about Arniel. He has gotten them through adversity all year long and now he has to make the necessary system and motivational adjustments to what St Louis has thrown at us. Bowness was not able to do that effectively last year against Colorado and that was part of our undoing.

I'm more confident this year that Arniel and Co will adapt and we will take this series.

I think of when the interviewer asked him about "adjustments". Arniel couldn't wait to say "of course they adjusted. We're adjusting too". Without disparaging certain mesozoic era (I'm sure @kanadalainen knows a better word!) coaches, I think Arniel realizes something is wrong. And this is even with him honestly acknowledging the role of luck. I can't emphasize that enough. The best poker players in the world spend more time analyzing the role of luck in their results than you could possibly imagine, even in a game so skill-based that computers can beat all but the best humans. I hope we do that analysis too.

Bang on.

It’s time for the head coach to show he can adjust his game plan.

I’m a bit frustrated Chevy gets to be continually employed when so obviously failing to fill the 2C hole year after year, but alas…

Not much to say after that one. Yikes.

I think the only reassuring thing was in the press conference with Arniel, and how he responded to a question about “the Blues adjustments in that game” (paraphrasing). You could tell the question struck a nerve, and he was quick to respond that the Jets will make adjustments of their own leading up to Game 4. Quite a departure from Bones, who deflected/dismissed those same kind of questions in the Avs series.

Arniel has quietly impressed me this season with his coaching mettle and ability to make subtle shifts to the Jets play style. I’m confident he can get things right for game 4.

A friend and I were talking about Hellebuyck before game #3, and he was saying that Hellebuyck is playing too deep in his net. And you look at some of the goals in this series, and he's giving up a lot of net, in spite of his frame. What do you think?
That to me is a confidence issue, might be overthinking things.

We need to revisit just how bad Helle is when he leaves the crease to handle the puck. STAY IN YOUR NET PLEASE!!! We love you but, YOU SUCK HANDLING THE PUCK!!

Helle's goal for the Blues last night reminded me in a very bad way of the '18 Vegas series and the Helle folly trying to play the puck.
I think that's a bit of a meme. In my mind it's the most improved part of his game, and it's a HUGE way to reduce wear and tear on your D and evade forcechecks.

However, you have to be confident and deliberate. And Hellebuyck seems to be lacking that. I hope he gets his mind right.

I guess your choosing to ignore building a perennial playoff team, president's Trophy winner, Avs all the masterful deals he's pulled off? Not to mention doing it all while retaining a lot of talent in the smallest least desirable market in the league?

I don't think many realize how bad it could be. Just look around at some of the other teams in this league, many who've been dealt a much stronger hand than us.

Its really is sad how the pitchfolks come out for Helle after what he has done for the team the whole year.
How can you blame him for the first 2 goals?
"Playoff Helle shows up"
The majority of the team played bad not only Helle.
I would LOVE my post to age like week old fish left on the kitchen counter, but maybe Helle’s just one of those “great in the regular season, but can’t find the extra level in the playoffs” guys. At some point, you want your starting goalie to stand on his head/steal a series (insert cliche here). I really hope Helle shows us that he CAN overcome his playoff hoodoo.

I've been trying to ignore this site all day and reset mentally but just a friendly reminder vasilevskiys save% is even worse than helle. To me its not goaltending, the blues have just come out more ready to play from the first puckdrop, and our counter is trying to shell up defensively. Gotta go take the puck and finish your checks, take your man out of the play instead of allowing so many high quality chances from in close. Identify the weakest link force them to play it to them and attack
