Post-Game Talk: Blues 5 - Jets 2 Series tied at 3

Someone posited the hypothesis that Helle was better when we had a big defence that could box players out, and now with our smaller D he’s really struggling. Not sure that’s it but there is some correlation anyway.

Also, just following up on who you would start next game and how you like your eggs cooked?

I personally would hate to be Arniel right now. You have your team MVP playing atrocious hockey and your in a must win game. The gutsy call is to put Comrie in. I just might do it.

Depends on my mood for eggs.

6 games (and previous playoff series) is a big enough sample to size to conclude that Connor Hellebyuck plays like **** when it matters.
My first post this playoffs was about how Helle is probably one of those players who is great in the regular season, but just can’t level up for the playoffs. Every outing just reinforces this. (He still looked a bit shaky to me in Game 5.)
Too bad Helle’s contract still has 4? 5? more years to run, and no way does a team want to trade for him, given what they’ve seen of him in the playoffs. I guess the only way the Jets win the Cup while Helle is still a Jets player is if the team lucks into an unheralded backup goalie who takes the Jets all the way a la Adin Hill or Antii Niemi.

if helle is just average we win game 7
Without Scheifele, I don't think so. The second line on this team when healthy is likely one of the worst out of all the playoff teams. I have little faith in the Jets offense given they only had one top-6 centreman to begin with...and the team only averaged 2.88 gpg in the final third of the season which is below average.

Names is a 3rd liner posing as a first line centre.

Helly will have to be very good to great in game 7 for the Jets to win without Mark. I sure wouldn't count on that at this point given what we have seen.

I think I’d go Comrie too, but I suspect they’ll run with Helle. At least he’s been marginally better at home this series.

I am an over easy guy, personally. That’s what I’m cooking up right now.

Which is why you needed to do it before game 7
Hence why I said Comms should've played this one or game 4, hell we should've played LB last season. The real question assuming this all goes to shit, what do you do next season.

I mean we all know what they will do, but what should they really do.

Should we go with Comrie in Game 7? Arneil will have to have some big balls to attempt it, but what if it works?
I doubt they go with Comrie, although it may be a good idea. You pretty much have to go with the guy that got you here. If Arneil decided to go with Comrie, and the Jets lose, he’d likely lose his job.

It's been rough.....but Helly needs to realize (mentally) that a good Game 7, with the Jets moving on......would act as a giant eraser for all the bad goals, so far.....

Helly will start game #7 because he hasn't lost on home ice yet, so it's the safe play, but I think Arniel might just keep the "pull incase of weak goal" button ready to be pushed. And I don't think he will wait until we are down 5-1.

We had an equally small d when he stood on his head against the Oilers. Not sure that is it.

No comments about tonight's game it spoke for itself, all I'll say is they better bring it on Sunday and win, no excuses.
Shall we save them for a game 7 collapse of epic proportions by...
Outscored 17-5 in the 3 games there is a fkin joke. Absolutely gutless shit from this team.
Unwatchable, unbelievable, unfathomable and unnatural

For 3 years ago I thought Appleton was a poof,he just doesn't have any jam, helle is what he is a playoffs hand grenade, the the pin gets pulled at the end of the season, I'm not sure what it is causing him to melt under pressure but he does and at 31 I don't see it changing.

It be a very gutsy call, but it may be the right one. Don’t know if I’d do it tho ?

Yes the whole team was bad but they were in it until that backbreaking third goal.

Helle has let in at at least one weak goal per game at crucial moments. That's not acceptable for an NHL goalie in the playoffs, let alone the Vezina and potential MVP.

Team was shit today but they bailed him out last game and in Game 1. An actual MVP goalie should be able to steal a game for you, and he hasn't done that since the Edmonton series in the bubble.
The Oilers rally behind bad goal tending, the Jets crumble like cheap cement.
One more guy check and 2sleeps until this is either a lost season or a round two buttwhoppin

Looking back in retrospect, Nashville did that in Game 7 against Winnipeg. Pulled Rinne after a weak goal when it was 2-0 WPG, with 10 min gone into the 1st.. Brought in Soros, who was relatively unproven in 2018, and they nearly pulled it off, scoring on a PP to cut the lead to 2-1. Ultimately, it Jets would score 2 more goals on Soros, but it has happened.

IIRC, Vancouver benched Luongo in 2011-12 against LA, and played with Schneider (who played well, but Quick was an unbelievable 0.960).

I don’t understand why a defenceman tries to push an opposing player threw the crease … you know he is going to try to run interference on the goalie as soon as he is touched by the D man. The point it to stop him entering the crease.
Seriously Jets do not have one D man that can stop any big forward from entering the crease.
I even saw Helle knock a Blues player to the ice for standing in his crease but Helle is the problem.
Maybe the Jets need to hire a D man coach to teach soft player how to be hard on player near your crease.
