Post-Game Talk: Blues 5 - Jets 2 Series tied at 3

They will go with the same lineup. It is what it is at this point for game 7.

Luke Schenn has been dogshit for most of this series. That 3rd pairing is foolish with two guys who are obviously not a good pairing together.

I think they win it, but sometimes it’s frustrating watching what feels like the same damn team year after year, and expecting different results.

Question for the fandom- which deadline trade was worse? Kevin Hayes or Luke Schenn.

As shit as Hayes was to watch, atleast he wasn't keeping a better player out of the lineup.

100%. The full blame on Helly is insane. Everyone needs to be better. Time for that 10% better that they all talked about during exit interviews in 2024 to show themselves.

Listen advanced stats aren't the be all end all but we have the second best XGA/60 rate of any team in the playoffs and it's not materially different then our regular season numbers. This to me indicates that we aren't actually defending all that differently then the regular season.

What is the largest difference, it's we are getting the worst goaltending of the playoffs. It's making it seem the Jets are shiting the bed defensively because any half chance or scoring chance is ending up in our net.

As the rates show we aren't giving up more per game then we did in the regular season. It just seems like it because our goalie isn't making the saves.

We would probably have atleast two cup appearances in the last 7 years if we had a competent goalie in that time. No one here ever wanted to blame him back then but they have no problem doing it now. In the past he was 'okay' but he was never great. He never stole any games and you need that to be a cup winner. What's worse is when we're putting on pressure the other team and dominating, they come back and score a weak one demoralizing our team.
This is untrue.

In 2017-18, he was excellent during the Wild series. He went up against Pekka Rinne, the Vezina Trophy winner on the Preds, and completely outplayed him. With Vegas, they may ahve figured him out, as they kept rushing the net, and forechecking.

Then in 2021, he was the sole reason the Jets got by the Oilers in a 4 game sweep. He played pretty well against Montreal, but Carey Price was spectacular, and Scheifele was suspended. It was not until 2023 vs Vegas that he began to crap the bed.

The Stanley stick grab reminded me of myself. I played basketball in high school. I saw the court one time the whole season. The coach put me in and the other player dribbled past me and I grab him. It resulted in a foul. I was benched for the rest of the year. The coach was right as I was a terrible basketball player and had no business playing or being on the court. This is what should happen to players like Stanley and his ilk.

There is a serious problem with this team and accountability. Players who should be nowhere near an NHL rink but they keep getting played. All the Jets coaches have done this and, in the playoffs, the stakes are too high to be doing it. This isn't a try out.

if helle is just average we win game 7
He's been significantly below average for 3 playoff years in a row. You would be insane to risk playing him. It's just math at this point.

Unless Tony Robbins is spooning with him and whispering in his ear for the next 48 hours. He's done.

Problem is Buckey needs to be like 250% better. Everyone can be better, but he has the longest way to go to get to his standard.
He’s sporting an .815 save percentage. If he has a 50-save shutout in game 7 he ends the series with an .867.

Like, what. Team was bad and all that blah blah blah but you can’t win with this level of goaltending.

That's what is so bizarre. He's shown he can do it but that was a half decade ago. He's been crap since then.

It’s amazing how much room the Blues are giving Kyle Connor on the power play.
Yet instead of heading for the net with the puck or the middle of the ice, he keeps backtracking towards the blue line, further away from the net.
In contrast, when Ehlers gets the puck, he circles towards the middle and constantly moves in before he takes a shot.
In my opinion, Connor is missing some glorious opportunities to get some point blank shots.

So, I am generally pretty pessimistic, or at least I am outwardly as a self defense thing. But I truly thought based on how bloody consistent we were, all season long, that this could be our year.

Someone convince me that wasn't insane, because this team has me questioning literally everything. Did the Jets even come back in 2011? Is this some sick simulation?

Sobering when put that way.

I must admit, I do not feel nervous about game 7 the way I did about game 5

But man being a fan of this team is a roller coaster of emotions.

At least blues fans can rest on a remarkable end to the season if they lose. And if they win they were “never supposed” to make it

Having all that pressure on the group will be tough but they’ve shown strength at home so we have that to lean on

Someone posited the hypothesis that Helle was better when we had a big defence that could box players out, and now with our smaller D he’s really struggling. Not sure that’s it but there is some correlation anyway.

Also, just following up on who you would start next game and how you like your eggs cooked?

Nah you have to with Helle... he has earned that.
He hasn't earned anything in the playoffs, regular season doesn't matter, he has literally given the coach every single reason to play Comrie and this game Comms should've been in net.

This final game though, I mean it's a tough choice either way, you go with Comms and lose and everyone blames you, play Helly and he sucks and lets in 5 beach balls and you get blamed for playing him.

It's a classic catch 22.

Yup. Look at our first goal. Perfetti takes the puck to the net and bats his own rebound home.

KC has been good these playoffs but a bit more direct play on the PP would help open other avenues for our players.

Which is why you needed to do it before game 7

The year isn’t even 2011 yet. It’s still 1999.
