Blues 2024-2025 Prospect Thread

How many AHL call-ups have we used, just the one for Dvorsky, right? So if we want to call him up again later we have enough left.

We’ve used two - Dvorsky and Bolduc. Bolduc was sent down to Springfield and then immediately recalled on trade deadline day. Just a paper transaction but this made him eligible for the AHL playoffs.

But yes, they could definitely recall Dvorsky and give him another game or two. In fact, I’d say that’s pretty likely if they’ve got a playoff spot locked up with a game or two left and they want to give a couple guys a rest.

Dvo sent down.
Not surprising. Not because he was bad but we don’t need 15 forwards. Of him and Snuggy, I thought Dvorsky looked slightly better but both looked not quite NHL ready to me. He has a great future but just needs to keep working on his pace. Was good for him to see just how much faster the NHL was and agree with others that say the true benefit was likely the week and a half’s worth of NHL caliber practices.

They both reminded me of Bolduc when he came up. It was obvious that all 3 have clear NHL caliber skills. Dvorsky and Bolduc were probably more prepared by being at NHL training camps and playing at AHL level, where Snuggerud had more moments of being a bit more lost, which is to be expected with just coming from NCAA and no NHL training camps. If we weren't in a playoff position, Dvorsky and Snuggerud probably would've had a stretch like Bolduc had and improved as they played more and collected a handful of points.

Goal is to show them where the NHL level is at, how the pros operate on a daily basis, and be prepared to have a season like Bolduc is having now.

Obviously not all the prospects will hit, but I have a good feeling we have many that will be very solid NHL players, and hopefully a few will be better than just solid. I love how we’ve drafted the past 3-4 years. Here is how I project many of our top ones

Dvorsky - 2nd line center
Snuggs - top 6
Bolduc - top 6
Stenberg - middle 6
Juricek - 2nd pairing
Lindstein - 2nd pairing
Stancl - middle 6
Jecho - bottom 6
Pekarcik - middle 6
Ralph - bottom pairing
Fisher - 2nd pairing
Mcisaac - bottom pairing
Loof - bottom pairing
Burns - undetermined
Kos - undetermined
Buchinger - undetermined

There’s a couple others you guys mention that I don’t follow closely. Also, there just isn’t enough spots for all these guys to play. We’ll have to eventually package a few to try to upgrade in other areas.

Dvorsky - 2nd line center - agree
Snuggs - top 6 - agree
Bolduc - top 6 - agree
Stenberg - middle 6 - agree
Jiricek - 2nd pairing - I'm a bit worried about his injuries. If healthy: agree
Lindstein - 2nd pairing - upside= complementairy 1st pairing, but likely 2nd pairing
Stancl - middle 6 - 3rd liner
Jecho - bottom 6 - injury call-up/extra forward/bottom 6, could top out at AHL-level
Pekarcik - middle 6 - 3rd liner
Ralph - bottom pairing - agree
Fischer - 2nd pairing - 3rd-6th defenseman
McIsaac - bottom pairing - 5th-7th defenseman, could top out at AHL-level
Lööf - bottom pairing - 6th/7th defenseman, but likely AHL-level
Burns - undetermined - 4th-6th defenseman
Kos - undetermined - unknown
Buchinger - undetermined - 6th/7th defenseman, but likely AHL-level

I'd also like to add Mrsic who can end up a good middle-6 forward but also bust at the AHL level. Roll the dice.

I find Mrsic to be one of our more intriguing prospects. While WHL numbers can at times be a bit of a mirage, his pure talent as a shooter and skating ability are undeniable. If he's at all coachable and willing to commit to improving his apparently lackluster defensive play, he could end up a real gem capable of greatly outproducing his draft position. The big question I have is how quickly he processes the game. Is he the type of player capable of creating space for himself and others with minimal time to do it as he progresses to the next level? I watched an interview with him on YouTube recently and he seems to have a good head on his shoulders and a willingness to improve his overall game. Hitting on a midround guy who ends up a 50-60 point player would huge.

I would suggest tempering your expectations. I've been watching him this year and while he has some skill, it's likely not enough at his size to ever crack our top 6 and his size and game don't really translate to bottom 6. I wouldn't be shocked if he got a handful of NHL games over his career but I don't expect that he ever becomes a regular NHLer.

I would venture to guess that aside from the first three guys on your list, the guy we’re most likely to see in a Blue Note next is Dylan Peterson. He’s on the Toropchenko path, and that’s an easier one to crack than the top-9. He’ll have to beat Walker for a job next summer, but I think he can.

I think we have the same expectations. It would be nice if he were able to exceed them if things go well for him with his development. Having a 3rd to 4th round guy out of this current crop of prospects really pop would be huge for our long term outlook.

I thought Kessel was a call up or was that before the deadline? He was called up on deadline day but I can't remember if it was before deadline or after.

Don’t forget Korotky and Susuyev. They’re a longer way away, but I could see both having solid NHL careers.

Also? A fourth line (where we roll four lines that can score, for clarification, not that they are fourth line players) of Pekarcik, Stancl, and Jecho is something I will bang the drum for until the day it happens or doesn’t.

Kessel was considered on the NHL roster at the deadline so he’s now ineligible for the AHL playoffs. Pretty sure that’s why the T-birds traded for Calen Addison. Since they knew they wouldn’t be getting Kessel back.

Ok I couldn't remember if the call up was officially before the deadline ended or was considered after it because it happen on the last day (very forgetful). So we still have 2 left then.

He will play NHL games. He really gets under the other team's skin. Good shot blocker and penalty killer.

What’s a good Burns comp?
Going back in time....Brad McCrimmon. Defense first, but can make a great first pass and doesn't just unload the puck. He's always looking for someone to pass to. He's that guy that can play with Petro and let him Petro, while he holds down the fort. McCrimmon was Lidstrom's, Bourque's, and Mark Howe's partner that let them do their thing. Be a good partner for Parayko or Jiricek to explore their offensive games.

Here was interesting thought I had with Snuggy.

What would have had if Snuggy became pro last year? Would Army have still made offer sheet on both Holloway & Broberg??? I think Broberg still would have but not sure if they would have offer sheet Holloway still. Or would they have not made trades for the like of Texier, Joseph, or Faksa?
