Blues 2024-2025 Prospect Thread

This is good news IMO. No offense to St. Cloud State but they’re a 2nd tier program. I’ll be interested to see where he goes. Ralph is from the twin cities area but not sure Minnesota is the place to go right now. They just lost Snuggy, Rinzel, Moore and Wood. And wouldn’t be surprised if they lose more guys too. Their incoming freshman class isn’t exactly full of big names either:

Feel like Gophers have done nice job developing defensemen lately. Faber, Lacombe, Rinzel all really blossomed there.

Dvo has a good shot, Holloway has a good shot, Bolduc has a really good shot, but Snuggs shot is elite. I cant imagine having 4 guys that shoot like that on the roster. And that’s not counting Kyrou and Thomas. I’m still undecided on Neighbors shot.
Neighbors had an acceptable shot... What I like most about him is his willingness to go to the net and pick up loose change

If he won't sign with Edmonton, then Maatta doesn't have much value either.

True.

If we're talking Edmonton: Dalyn Wakely and Matt Copponi are also options, although I'm not really certain their rights expire at the end of the season (sigh... I miss Capfriendly), but Wakely is an overager in the OHL and Copponi played his 4th NCAA season.

I kinda expect EDM to sign Copponi as soon as BU is out of the Frozen Four. If Edmonton wanted to sign Wakely however, they probably would've signed him to an ELC already a while ago. I guess he's an interesting option if they're interested in signing Mayich.

Agreed. Neighbours’ shot itself isn’t really anything better than NHL average but he’s got an absolute nose for the net. His puck luck isn’t as high this season as last but he knows where to go to score a lot of goals within 3-5 feet of the net.

This guy is a good follow for Blues prospect information. I’d expect Lindstein will be in the AHL next year. Brynas is a good team, but seems crazy for Lindstein to still be getting this treatment.

Lindstein's time on ice is alarming. His team played him for 7:59 in one game and then 6:53 (combined) over the next three...His swedish team clearly has no plans to develop him, and for that reason, he should be playing in the AHL next year.

I'd like some context on that. Was he sick? Battling injury? That doesn't seem in keeping with how he had been used much of the year.

This changes the narrative somewhat for me. IMO, the officiating in OT in a lot of these college games has been simply atrocious. I get letting the guys play as refs don’t want to be the story but when you don’t call obvious calls then the refs are still the story, just in the inverse. There could’ve been a number of penalties in the two OTs of the Western Michigan-Minnesota State game too.

And don’t get me started on the Big 10 championship game. Michigan State earned at least 5 penalties in that OT but not a single one was called. I just searched for video and couldn’t find any but even the announcers were like, what are we doing here after a Mich St player slashed the stick out of the Ohio St goalie’s hand and then clobbered a guy behind the net in the head knocking his helmet off a couple seconds later. No call and then Mich St wins it shortly after.
Nothing makes you appreciate NHL refs more than watching any other level of hockey. It's why I always laugh at people who talk about the lack of accountability for NHL refs and acting like the NHL is stupid for allowing such bad officials to keep their jobs. NHL refs are very clearly the best in the world and the ones who can't cut it at the NHL level are the ones you see making horrible calls in lower leagues. NHL officiating isn't (and never will be) perfect and there is romo for improvement, but watching other leagues regularly makes you appreciate NHL officials.

So far the standard of officiating in OT for the NCAA tournament has been everything I hate about the 'let the players decide the outcome' style of officiating. I'm very much fine with allowing an increase in physicality and creating a standard where you have to 'do more' to get a penalty. But that can't become a complete blind eye to blatant, possession changing, scoring chance ending, and opposite-direction scoring chance creating infractions. The refs determined the outcome of the Minnesota/UMass game way more than simply calling blatant penalties would have.

Completely agree. I know a couple guys that are/were NHL refs and another that just retired from doing college games. It’s so so hard. And yes, the guys in the NHL are the best of the best. My only experience as a ref was I did it a bit when I was in college but that was just youth hockey, adult leagues and intramural I’d ref. And it was still super easy to miss things at real speed.

I can only assume there’s been a directive to just let them play in the OT of college hockey this year but it’s been really really bad. I wish I could find video of the OTs of that Big 10 championship game. It was the most egregious series of non-calls I recall ever seeing.
