Is Burns a legit prospect?
I was impressed with Burns during the prospect tourney this season. I could see him being a third pairing, sandpaper defenseman but he's got a lot of work to do to get there, notably playing more disciplined hockey.

Ultimately I see him as a AHL-NHL tweener.

He’s been Kingstons #1 pair D for 2-1/2 years. He gets the Sennecke type match ups and does pretty well. Excellent first pass. I think he plays if he can stay out of the box as you said. He and Mayich are both good shutdown D and both will drop the mitts if needed.

Unfortunately, in the four fights I've seen Burns in, he lost all of them.

Reminds me of a Bortuzzo type. Willing to drop the mitts, but it's not going to be pretty.

He’s also 19 years old. I know his opponents are the same age, but fighting is no different than developing any other skill. A lot of times the more you do it, the better you get.

Doesn’t happen that way for everyone but there’s plenty of guys that’s been the case for.

You also don’t need to win every fight, sometimes you just need to hang in there and do enough to not get creamed.

I remember in preseason…I think it was Dean that had a questionable hit that spurned one of the tough guys on the other team and Burns at least answered the bell or got his bell rung…but he stood up for his teammates. Maybe another Jackman.

Oh so he’s gonna win the Calder, got it ;)
As a team that hasn't had a Calder winner since

Jiricek now listed on Czechia's WJC preliminary roster along with Jecho, Kos, and Stancl. Haven't been following him much this season but I'm surprised Badinka was left off.

There are 14 NHL affiliated prospects on that roster and 4 are for the Blues.

Thats a pretty cool sight to see no matter the country.

While looking for info on Jiricek last week I think I read that Badinka is also injured so that could be why

Just saw a blurb on Czech NHL.com about Jiricek. Assistant coach Lada Smid said Jiricek is skating and is looking to get two junior games in before hopefully going to the junior camp. Not sure if this has been reported anywhere else but just passing it on.

I appreciate it, I have been trying to find updates on him anywhere and everywhere but they seem hard to come by

Fischer looking good for Sarnia. Seems to have improved his composure. Good penalty killer. Good position. Sarnia reminds me of Kingston a year ago. Young talent with Fischer being looked at as a veteran presence like Burns was.
Great to see he's back on the ice. Wasn't he injured?

much more excited about Fischer than Jiricek. instincts can be wrong but I have had an instinct about Fischer that he can grow into being one of those ~5 very strong versatile minutes capable defenders you need on an eventual Cup run. like Gunnarsson-type importance to the Blues 2019 D corps
