Love them both, but I’m not sure Otto has enough offensive upside to play on the top line imo. To me, he seems like a very good all around 3rd liner with 2nd line potential. But hell, who knows.
There was a 12-18 month period about 11 years or so ago where Alex Steen was our best forward and I have imaginings of Otto outstripping expectations in a similar fashion

True, but that top line of Steen - Backes - Oshie wasn’t a cup caliber top line imo.

I've seen about 20 games of Otto Stenberg by now and I don't see a top line player. I see an impactful two-way, middle-6 winger (most likely a 2nd line player during his prime).

Maybe there's some untapped offensive potential in there, but I see a guy who will be defensively responsible, contribute to a strong possession game and be a shut-down guy on the PK while scoring 20 goals a season and setting up 25-35 more. He's the type of player that won't wow you on the scoresheet but his underlying metrics are going to be strong.

His compete level is through the roof and he's going to be a pain in the ass to play against. He's definitely going to be a fan favorite.

I don't think he was ever projected to be a top line player. I kind of view his trajectory to be similar to Steen's. A reliable middle six workhorse.

If anything, id say it makes binner more expendable next season/ beyond and gives us some comfort knowing we have a legit (and big) long term solution in net for the thomas, buch, kyrou,Holloway, bolduc, dvorsky, snuggerud, stenberg, neighbours, Broberg lindstein, jiricek era in 2+ years

with all that being said, anyone else sense a kyrou for werenski trade on the docket a year or so from now? lol

Why? We have a ton of D and Werebski isn’t healthy.

We don’t have any #1’s. Krug and Leddy will be gone in 2-3 years if not sooner, we’re gonna have a glutton of high end young fwds and only so many spots available…. and every championship team has a bonafide #1D.

Love what i've seen out of broberg so far, but i'm not ready to count him as our future pietrangelo/doughty/hedman etc...etc...

Maybe an Ondrej Palat type player? I'm not only saying that because he looks like him. Or am I?

Is he a #1 dman? A few years ago, I would have said yes, hands down. But with his past injuries... He is a number 1 dman on one of the worst teams in the league. What would he be on a top team?

I echo the call for elite talent on the Blues. The team needs it.

One of our Russians is gonna go full on Babushka doll and molt toward stardom.

He'd be relieved with quality teammates and probably take his game to another level.

He was injured two seasons ago dude. Last year he played 70 games and had 57 points and was an even +/- on a dogsh** team. Led the team in +/- too. Averaged 26 mins a night as well.

It doesn't have to be werenski, but he's the only one i see potentially ever being available. and yes he's defintiely a #1 Defenceman. Nothing suggests he's not, outside of your opinion from an injury 2 years ago.

According to PuckPedia, Simon Robertsson was taken off IR and assigned to the T-birds yesterday. Not seeing it anywhere official but I assume that’s valid and hopefully he’s back healthy now and can pick up where he left off after a solid camp with the Blues.

I would point to OEL and Chychrun. Being top player means you get all of the grade A opportunities. Brad Boyes is another one. I think we need to focus on adding elite forward vs trading 1. The D appears solid right now.

He’s more talented than chycrun and OEL.

Are u seriously comparing werenski to Brad boyes? Werenski was a stud when they were a playoff team too.

I’m talking our D core down the line. Like yes Broberg has been great so far but by no means is this a championship D core, especially 2+ years from now when Parayko and Faulk are older.

It doesn’t have to be Werenski, but I don’t see any other elite options becoming available.

I honestly think missing out on Zeev Buium could be what bites us in the a** in 3-5 years if we don’t find an all situations #1.

Love the potential of lindstein and Jiricek. Love what I’ve seen out of Broberg so far. But I don’t see any of these guys as elite #1 D in the future, though for our sake I hope I’m wrong

I just hope we don’t spend 5-10 years losing in the 2nd rd with our next wave wishing we had that all around #1
