It’s really frustrating. I’m not gonna rag on this kid and I hope he comes in and kills it, but man….

Extremely frustrating. Seems like our front office mindset is we can nickle and dine everyone to death and always be a fringe team.

After the Neighbours pick last season I would rather us have taken a leap and fallen flat on our face as opposed to get a guy who’s most likely going to be a middle 6er down the road. I guess on the positive side those cost controlled middle 6ers help with cap control

I also think we are prone to forgetting this is the first "official" draft were we have a completely new scouting regime in place, or at least the person running it has changed. But since Armstrong left, we've leaned toward players lacking high end upside and I'm really not super thrilled about it?

Please trade Tarasenko to the Bruins for their 1st and take Lambos

That injury this last year is scaring GMs away. I stand by my earlier post that he would have been a top 10 picks if not for the injury. Someone is going to get an absolute steal when they pick him.

Not the pick I was expecting but Bolduc was pretty highly regarded during his rookie season, his sophomore season in the QMJHL was a bit disappointing. He skates well and is skilled so there's some upside there, but I would have preferred Lucius here.

He dealt with injury his sophmore season. So it's understandable that he didn't kill it. He may need an extra year, but the skill it there. I don't think this is a low ceiling, high floor pick people are complaining about at all. He is a really good skater, with sick hands. This is getting more and more to be a skating league and Lucius is not a great skater. So in that regard, I understand the pick

Bolduc is the perfect Blues pick. Center who plays a 200 foot game , need not know much more. He needs to add some weight but is 6 1"
a hockey nut , tons of heart, plays physical, and back checks. Oh, and he has speed which most Blues fans are looking for. Not a bad pick
at all.

Bolduc - “great compete level, slippery and hungry around the net”

I like that

Like someone else said, the trend seems to be low ceiling, high floor players. Now, I don't know a ton about Bolduc, but the trend also feels like average skating players. I don't like the idea of becoming an average skating team while the league gets faster. I hope the kid can prove me wrong, but man am I confused.

Edit: People have said he's fast/good at skating, then good. But some reports I've seen have been average skating so idk

Svechkov is a such an underrated player. He has much more offense and I wouldn’t be surprised to see him become a top-6 guy.

2nd best center in the draft.

I agree, the injury definitely played a part in his lackluster season. I'm expecting him to be a breakout player next season. He's not low ceiling to me either, I'm not sure what gives that impression to some people. He can skate, he can make plays, and he's got a lot of skill. If anything, he needs to work on those traits that people typically link with "low ceiling players" such as defensive aptitude and physicality.

Also didn't help that the Q had a weird season either.

I don’t really get the low ceiling high floor criticisms with Bolduc. With Neighbours, yes I agree, that pick seemed like a total “if nothing else he can grind”. Bolduc had some injury issues and his performance took a dip. But he can still skate and has skill and goal scoring pop. If you’d like to say he’s a reach I wouldn’t argue but I don’t think he’s a massive one. I think Bolduc’s ceiling is pretty high. Will he hit? Who knows.

Where are people getting that Bolduc is low ceiling, high floor? Like people are really complaining that we passed on Svechkov and then complaining about Bolduc as low ceiling? Makes no sense.
I've read a few scouting reports that haven't been consistent so that's where I've gotten my impression. But to be fair to him, I have zero research on him and haven't watched a second of his games.
