I’ve found that when people claim they’re unfiltered, or they claim they just say what’s on their mind, they’re just assholes that use those excuses to say stupid things.
All I'm saying is that the dude ain't on the spectrum or anything. It's pretty common in many sports, especially individual sports, to talk trash about your opponent, but hockey obviously has its own code about that (except during the hockey match itself when everyone talks trash).
Laine has always been more of an individual than a team player, which is probably why he has had his struggles fitting into the locker room. He reminds me more of a boxer or MMA fighter, personality-wise, he's no stranger to causing controversy and acting antagonistic as a means of gaining people's attention.
Another thing is that it just tends to be Finnish culture in general to state what you're thinking bluntly and directly, that's why Kakko got shipped out of Rangers as well, because he said what he felt about the coaches' decision to bench him, with no sugar-coating.
