It would make sense to say that if he was traded to a perennial contender, he’s playing for a team in a very similar situation and a long rebuild ongoing.

Well, enjoy him, Montreal but soon he will think the same about you

Honestly is Patrik like on the spectrum or something? Or is he just a quiet Finn that might have way of talking after the fact that is off-putting?

Seems like a trend with him ending up not liked with team leadership. We’ll see what happens with Montreal if the team isn’t good enough to win.

He's just unfiltered. Sometimes it's good. sometimes it's... not so good. Nonetheless, interviewers always get their money's worth from the guy.

He always had this reputation, part of the reason why he made such an impact early on is because he talked a lot of crap and managed to back it up.

Laine seems to be a young guy who probably already didn't have the healthiest ego, who has gone through some really rough shit and is in a career where he doesn't exactly have the luxury of processing that rough shit at his own pace.

I imagine this situation here will be hard for him. Hopefully he takes the right lesson from it and learn that he chose to make it a big deal. He could've said nothing, shown gratitude and humility towards his former team and teammates and just moved on. Instead he looked for a problem and he found it.

CBJ's roster turnover since Werenski got drafted is epic. Only him and Jenner left.
I think there might be some issues with the kind of "winning" culture those two are trying to sell in that lockerroom since no player wants to stay for more than a season.

I have to think Laine is on to something here since Werenski gets all worked up about it.

Got to love a bit of banter.

I’ve found that when people claim they’re unfiltered, or they claim they just say what’s on their mind, they’re just assholes that use those excuses to say stupid things.

Been thinking that, since a lack of ability to see things from others' perspective is a significant characteristic. Even if he's not, I certainly think that he isn't very good at predicting how others will react to what he's saying. This is entertaining for fans and such since his comments are different from the standard jargon, but he probably is shooting himself in the foot by giving comments in this fashion.

Laine knows NHL success and won’t settle for less like those stinkers in Columbus!

For people like Laine nothing is ever their fault, it’s always others that are letting them down. They’re called narcissists.

Total POS.

Laine was basically on a mental health break for the past 5 years and his teammates in Columbus walked on eggshells and treated him like an overgrown baby for that period.

Now he gains a little bit of confidence back and chooses to be a douche bag. Let's jut say I won't be shedding any tears when he inevitably checks himself back into the players assistance program.

I believe he also trashed Winnipeg in a similar manner at that time.
You would be wrong. Laine has never said a negative thing about Winnipeg, and it has been well recorded that he wouldn't have minded to actually play there again. When Laine was traded, coincidentally Bufyglien quit hockey, Maurice resigned, Wheeler was stripped of his captaincy and bought out... It's not like Laine was the one issue there.

I love posts like this. Since Werenski got drafted there's also only two Canadians left, one being total plug Gallagher.

Then you say nobody wants to stay, but you just previously referenced two guys that have signed with the team long term. Let's not even get into guys like Johnny or the young guys that just signed 3 year deals this off-season.

You can think Laine is onto something. You're probably also the type that constantly runs into problems but it's always someone else's fault lol.

All I'm saying is that the dude ain't on the spectrum or anything. It's pretty common in many sports, especially individual sports, to talk trash about your opponent, but hockey obviously has its own code about that (except during the hockey match itself when everyone talks trash).

Laine has always been more of an individual than a team player, which is probably why he has had his struggles fitting into the locker room. He reminds me more of a boxer or MMA fighter, personality-wise, he's no stranger to causing controversy and acting antagonistic as a means of gaining people's attention.

Another thing is that it just tends to be Finnish culture in general to state what you're thinking bluntly and directly, that's why Kakko got shipped out of Rangers as well, because he said what he felt about the coaches' decision to bench him, with no sugar-coating.

He seems like a fair-weather person that would be fairly unpleasant to be around when the going gets tough.

It was classless.

Werenski isn't worked up because Laine is "on to something" but because these words by Laine were a betrayal of his former teammates. Those who are still there and the one who passed away. He basically says he quit on his team and throws them under the bus without taking any responsibility.

His former team prepared a tribute video for him and that's how he thanked them. Also not particularly cool for his current teammates, as he fired up the Jackets.

Also not very smart to say you quit on your team since he is currently on a rebuilding team in a high visibility market. How many times are reporters going to ask him if he is also tired of losing here?

Laine does have a lot talent but still needs to do some major introspection, it seems.

The Canadiens did atleast make it to the cup finals before blowing up their team. CBJ been in a constant state of rebuild since 1999.

Laine has his issues but if you cant see that there clearly is something rotten in CBJ i think you are the kind of person that sees everyone elses problems while being oblivious to your own. Lol.

Classless? Werenski better grow some leadership-balls then and drive Laine through the boards.

Columbus as an org bent over backwards for him and offered as much support publicly and privately as he needed. Teammates were always supportive in the same light. Patty took the low road and that poster met him there. Consequences of acting like a jackass, makes total sense.
What Laine said was stupid. It's even more stupid to be rejoicing if someone is struggling with his/her mental health.

I mean, no shit, they haven't won anything. Doesn't mean guys don't care. Doesn't mean they aren't trying out there. Much like the Habs in today's game, the CBJ seemed to turn a corner once Laine left.

Yeah, I'm not gonna continue to make excuses for this guy. Being a pro athlete is hard. Players go though alot. Laine has had it as tough as a thousand other players that have come and gone. I don't think he deserves special treatment.

I'm sure he would have if Laine lasted more than one period. Watch the amount of time off he can score with a likely minor injury. Dudes got it all figured out!

There are also a lot of "normal" (as in not being professional athletes or other public personas) people who don't have mental health issues, but I'm not going to bash those who do.

Are we really going to deny though that Columbus was clearly tanking during Laine's stay there? It was pretty obvious based on some of the decisions that were made.

I don't blame them for it, that's sometimes what you have to do for the future of your team,. But obviously Laine had a difficult time accepting the position that he was in.
