You could not get up the camping aisle at Canada Tire. Small propane canisters and camp stoves, propane lights, water jugs. It was like people are expecting the appocolypse. I bought my kid a new shovel to put her to work on the sidewalk. I will call it PhysED if school gets cancelled.

Grabbed a 24 of the Ducky beer, ripple chips, sour cream, onion soup mix and I have a freezer full of venison. I am not too worried.

I plan on shovelling my way to my BBQ and cooking if I lose power.

I recall 86 and 97 quite well. I am hoping this thing goes out with a whimper but sure looks nasty where it has already hit.
Great post, and I just got home from Safeway about 15 minutes ago. I could not believe my eyes. I have never seen the "bread shelves" so empty. Not one loaf of bread, not one. I commented to one guy who was also looking, that you'd think we're in a war, and people were buying survival supplies. I have a couple loafs, so I should be OK. Other food stuffs were quite normal.

I bought my go to "easy meals" at Safeway, which is a BBQ chicken for $ 10.00, which I can get about 3-4 meals out of, with a little bread or rice. In case of blackouts or prolonged shortages, I'm OK for about 10 -14 days. Man that Safeway was absolutely packed. I could imagine the camping aisle at Canadian Tire.

I will do like you, if I get a power outage - I will shovel out my gas BBQ, or light the fireplace inside my house for heat, which I usually don't do. I'm ready for the survival test, whatever it takes.

Good exercise for your daughter, and give her incentive to do well in school, so she won't have to do manual work to make a living. The girls don't like that kind of work, so giving her a taste of real work, only helps her.

Still snow coming, but the warning has certainly dialed down the drama a couple notches.

Yeah Superstore was insane. Have a buddy who works there, they usually do around 200-230 thousand on a Monday, they did nearly 500k this last Monday.

How much food does one need for 3-4 days

well yeah, but what would they usually do the day before Good Friday Easter weekend? That's a big part of what we're seeing right? People aren't planning on shopping Thursday if it's shitty out so it's all happening now...

Sad because I was actually going to the hockey game tonight that got cancelled. Work is cancelled. And I can't go to the lake which was where I spent a vast majority of the pandemic.

I'll be in tears if this is how we spend the 20's, just indoors and always a big fault in the world.

I'm blessed I always buy three cartons of milk and go through one within 1-3 days. I drink a lot of coffee. But I also have lots of ramen, Kraft Dinner and water.

The snow is making me sick to my stomach, last time I remember it being this bad was in 2013.

What really sucked was we were overdue to go shopping as we were running low on a lot of stuff. Thankfully, our freezer was stocked with frozen foods and assorted meats. And we always have flour on hand just in case, so if push came to shove, we'd have gotten by.

I spent yesterday and this morning just picking up a few miscellaneous items (veggies, coffee creamer - I get cranky without my morning coffee , whipping cream - and no, not for that; Mrs Jetson wanted to make a cake :P).

I always have some provisions on hand for just in case storms like this, as I try to heed the advice of having an emergency kit on hand for a few days.

I can confirm how insane Superstore has been the past few days, as Mrs. Jetson has friends who work there. It doesn't help that the roof of one of their warehouses collapsed a while back, and they are renting space from another grocery chain (I don't know which one).

The lineup to get gas at Costco was insane yesterday, it was like the Apocalypse out there, lol.
I’m set,
Beer, check
Whiskey, check
Junk food, check
Ingredients for chili and chicken wings, check
Generator, check

And, whoever took their snow tires off and put their snowblowers away, this is all your fault. You know who you are.

So I am going to enjoy some quite days at home and get caught up on reading. I am off to LA on Tuesday and I fly from Cali to Cancun a week this Friday for our annual managment slobber knocker. We usually book this in late January to get away from the Winter. We rebooked due to Covid in late April because our crew needs the time together but we all thought it would lose a bit of luster since we weren’t escaping winter. Mother Nature said “hold my beer”

This was always the most depressing time of year for me when I lived in Winnipeg. You get to believing that spring is here and then BAM! Kind of like the Jets getting you to believe they'll make the playoffs.

It's definitely the best time of year in Central Florida, 20-30 and sunny every day, you can have your windows open and nighttime is gorgeous.

Don't worry guys, another few weeks and the best season will be upon you

Florida is such a great place weather wise. I was in Miami and Fort Lauderdale for a few days in late November and it was perfect weather wise. Easy to get spoiled.

Thanks. Some of us hate the snow, no question. I'm weird, and don't mind so much. :):)

It helps to have the right vehicles to plow through it.

Ruby - on the left - is an amazing little craft for pushing snow.

I'm most definitely NOT a winter guy. Last winter was glorious...not much snow and a nice early melt off with patio weather through March. There was a little snow storm in early April last year too, but with all the warm air it was done and gone in no time. This year? f*** winter. I don't think I've ever asked myself "why in god's name do I live here?" more than this past winter. Just a relentless, brutal bitch of a winter. And now with this crap and no real warm weather in the forecast which means whatever falls over the next couple days is going to sit and melt slowly, we're basically back in mid-february conditions. I'm so sick of having to go out in this crap and drive around all day (as is required by my job).

What season would that be? Let's go through our usual list...

Pothole season?
Mosquito season?
Construction season?
Thunderstorm season?

Oh yeah, halcyon days ahead. :banghead:

Driving in this would be stressful. Sorry for your troubles.

Dude, this is not healthy. What you need is a solid month in a nice little condo near the beach in Hallandale Beach, FLA.
Let the heat soak into your bones while you chug a frosty margeurita sitting on a chair watching the rollers crash into the gently sloping sands while your significant other grabs a couple of beers to chase the booze...
