How much % do folks think this is going to be over estimated?
0%

The NHL would not have postponed the game Wednesday if this was something that could miss us. All the models show a storm that is going to keep everyone in place for at least 48 hours. Of course it's all projections...

I hope the forecasters are all wrong, but we should start seeing something by 11:00PM

Right now the best case scenario is probably getting less than what they are currently projecting, which still means snowfall amounts from 15-25cm. The current projections having us getting anywhere from 25-40cm and if the storm moves more to the east or slows down even more we could get 40+cm.

There is no chance that it misses Winnipeg at this point short of somebody testing Trump's theory on diverting storms with nuclear weapons or an actual act of god.

I don't know how to put it into a percentage but I'm going to put it right behind Y2K and the impact that legalizing marijuana would have on our society.

We live in Winnipeg. We know snow. Better safe than sorry but it'll probably be fine.

Curious to see the outcome of this. I was definitely around for 97. Was also around for November 1986 which I thought was considerably worse than 97. Also alive for 66 though I was only 2 at the time, but I've seen pictures and I think it topped both from what I've heard.

Thanks for the posts regarding the Jets game tomorrow and it's cancellation. Happy to hear I don't have to steal my wife's truck to get to the game. You can take the wife off the farm, but you canna have her truck.
86 felt much worse to me too. Only one day of school cancelled because Tuesday was Remembrance Day so no classes anyway. back to School on the wednesday.

97, I was working at Grace Hospital over night. Couldnt really tell how bad it was because the hospital is set back and they kept the entrance roads clear. But I managed to drive home in my Cavalier so how bad could it have been lol. That car was great in the snow. Had to ditch it in a parking lot on Pembina HWY and walk into my neighborhood though.

Here's a video I found on an old VHS and uploaded, about the Blizzard of 86

~45.7cm

Snowfall hour by hour until Friday morning alongside 40-90km/h wind. Duration + wind is going to be what makes this miserable more than the amount of snow.

Anytime we get a huge blizzard when we should be golfing i get mad but after this winter we had to endure i'm absolutely pissed.

I do send my sympathies to @Jets 31 , as I imagine him polishing his new custom fit golf clubs, while looking out the window in total disgust, while listening to the weather broadcast. Be brave my friend, we'll all tough out this last storm together. It could not be worse than the 1966 storm in March, when snow drifts were literally right up to the rooftops.

You'll be golfing in May - don't worry my friend.

Believe me, there was no worse winter storm than that of March 4/ 1966 taken here from my old archived pictures. It was "wicked" and the wind howled and whistled for 2-3 days, along with continuous snow. Honestly if you lived in a one storey home, you could not see out your front window. Many cars were totally buried, so you could not see them. I've lived here all my life, and nothing can come close to that storm. Look at these pictures.

Quick story - my Dad worked at the Post Office back then, on Graham Avenue, in the downtown area. All the workers there were told to stay overnight and the next day in the building for safety reasons. My Dad, who knew everyone there, decided with his friend they'd walk home thru all the big snow drifts, right in the middle of the storm. Took a lot of guts to walk 7 miles thru waist high snow to get home. My father was a very determined man.

My Dad lived in Windsor Park, and his friend lived in Norwood, just on one of those streets before the St.Boniface Golf Course. My Dad and his buddy made it to his friends street, where they parted, and his friend turned right, and walked down his street toward his house. My Dad continued down Archibald Street, heading to his home in Windsor Park. My dad made it home safely, and all was OK. My Dad then got a phone call the next day saying his friend died on his front sidewalk just 10 feet from his front door, of a massive heart attack. True story. They were both around 40 years old at the time.

That is a Winnipeg storm, I will never ever forget. Take a look at the pictures and see how high the snow was. Many cases, was right up to the rooftop of houses.
