Because that was an awful attempt at tying the skater up. We have seen him beaten in that exact way half a dozen times this season.

If they've been in that exact situation half a dozen times the problem is linemates putting him in that situation. It was one on one with the forward having the better angle, blaming him seems rather stupid to me

It's not his fault the play ended up happening, but if he is going to be deployed in a top-4 role he needs to be able to tie up the stick of the attacking skater at least some of the time. His lack of acceleration stopped him from being able to get good position and every time he gets beat it seems to be in a similar way.

the NHL has made it so you can't tie up the stick anymore or they call a penalty, or in that situation a penalty shot.
