I'm thinking we need to keep clifford for the playoffs. Simmonds cant do it alone and this team is pretty dangerous if it needs to respond.

That's just as believable as thinking that Holl magically made this team a top 5 defensive group because apparently he's a Pronger level defensive player.

Nobody said anything like that. They did note that he's been on the shutdown pair for one of the better defensive teams jn hockey the past 3yrs tho.

My favourite thing with Babcock was playing Hainsey the full two minutes on the PK for absolutely no reason. Even in overtime.

Other teams with far worse d-corps never launched the same player for the entire PK - but Babcock because he is some genius thought that was a good strategy. As if Hainsey was otherworldly.

Really excited to see what Rubins can do, Kid isn't even 24 and he is taller than Muzzin and almost the same weight. If he can throw that mass around, he might be able to tenderize a few forwards.

He's actually become a lot more physical this past year.

I wouldn't characterize him as a punishing D man but he throws his weight around in the D zone and engages physically along the boards. He's dropped players this year from time to time.

More physical than Holl was in the AHL.

I disagree. Just like Holl, he'll do it sometimes but not to the extent that you'd expect from a 6'5" defenseman. Rubins is not someone I'd consider physical unless he really changes up his game all of a sudden.

And to be honest, I don't really care. He's good defensively and that's what matters. He certainly won't be "tenderizing" forwards.

You might have seen Rubins by accident and not known it if you watched any of the World Championships last year as he played for Latvia.

Latvia upset the Canadians 2-0 in the preliminary round until Canada got going and won the gold in the end.

I enjoy the Leafs the past two games despite getting 1 point. It shows the team is willing to rough it up and actually back it up. Not a lot of teams have guys like us. If they can switch Holl with Bogo, this team will be even tougher.

Holl definitely improved the defensive core. Obviously, he is not at Pronger level. You are the only one who has made the claim of Holl being a Pronger level defenseman. Though getting a guy a Pronger level would bring even further improvement to the defence.

Holl isn't the only reason we're better now, but he's been a quality defenseman and a solid part of our matchup pairing for a while now. Babcock irrationally sitting him to play the likes of ancient Hainsey, Zaitsev, Ozhiganov, and Marincin certainly didn't help anything.

Honestly you can’t take anything away from Hainsey. He was pretty solid really, but when it was time to go he went.
