They also need to get smarter about weaponizing a forecheck. Guys like Girard, Byram, Toews and Makar, in reverse order of their abilities, should be picked on and plastered into the end boards and on board pinches to reduce effectiveness. I understand you’re not likely to catch Makar, but the lower end guys should be feeling the big hits and harassment all night to break down that transition from D to F. Kill their transition before it gets going at full speed.
Agreed, but it's hard to implement your own forecheck when you can't break out of your zone cleanly. The Avs were throwing 2 forecheckers at the Leafs D all night and outside of Rielly no one really has the ability to make them pay. To be fair to the Leafs 3 games in 4 nights at altitude isn't easy.

When he passed center and had his opening, there was 10 seconds left. The Avalanche player initiated the pass up in his own zone with 5.5 seconds left. If Tavares had shot and missed, it wouldn't have taken more than that 4.5 seconds to retrieve and initiate the pass. It didn't really change the timing of the puck heading back to our end.
what? are actually arguing that a missed shot would have made no difference?

He was leading the race. He could have shot, missed and once he noticed that he missed hustled and jammed him up. You make strange claims all the time and I don't understand the rationale.

Maybe not at the TDL, but Vegas also replaced the coach, brought in guys like Pietrangelo and Eichel, and made a number of other bold moves over the years the Leafs haven't had the balls to do.

Comparing Vegas to the Leafs is like comparing a grandmaster chess champion to a high school checkers player.
Not comparing but more like learning and trying to copy

We could really use a reliable secondary puck mover after Rielly.
Liljegren show's flashs of being this player but it can also be inconsistent.
Any of Hanifin, Weeger, Anderssen etc would help in this regard but you'll have to pay a hefty price but maybe we should.

Think that stats is a bit deceiving as even if Bobby Orr at his prime was Reilly partner will not make a difference in that goal since Reilly felt.
Do agree that I think Tre should get someone to partner Reilly as the other two pairs are really good and complement each other well.

This is probably where I should say I told you so.
The Leafs sure beat the hell out of Western teams this year.

They havn't fared as well against the East. Only 3 games against the West this year so they will have a chance to fix their record against Eastern teams

I don't think the West/East distinction means much. For me, it's all about watching this team from the new year on. Even in their losses, they have generally looked far more composed and defensively responsible. They haven't been out of a game since the clunker against Buffalo in December. I expect they will win the next two games, which will make for a very interesting game against the Rangers next Saturday. More importantly, they have tremendous leverage going into the deadline and they have very much narrowed down the acquisition(s) they need to make (which could, in theory, be limited to a single defenseman if need be).

Hate is a strong word, and not everyone is as optimistic as you, although you predict them to win every game
Not every game at all. I thought they would lose to Ottawa a couple of weeks ago. I also thought they would lose last night. But it's not really about that. It's more about having patience and letting a team gel and mature over time. I think that is all we are seeing now. The only surprising aspect of this season for me is whatever the heck has happened with Samsonov. I haven't seen a slingshot like this in a long time. The guy was dead and buried on New Year's Eve, and last night he looked like a completely different person.

A month ago half the people here hated them.
Think Odogg said it best on OD. It is hard not to like this team bc of the way they are playing. Winning helps but they are just playing the right way, all players are being accountable, doing the small things, skating hard….

Talk about a throwback.

Should had just edited the pic to only show last name and a few guys here might think, why was Domi and McCabe there? They were new guys. Lol

The Matrix
This is pretty clearly a completely different team the past month. Marner, Willy, and almost every supporting player is playing gritty, fast, effective hockey. Something we haven't seen almost any of from this group of stars, ever.
How dare you say that. Certain players you mentioned have always played like this, for shame. It’s so obvious the increase in intensity the last month or less.
