Lol @ all the salty avs fans in this thread shitting on Binnington. The amount of insecurity beggars belief.

Meeting stupidity with more stupidity: the HF Boards way.
No we're ****ing on him because he sucks. You think we're insecure lol? We've been lighting him up for years now. 10 minutes of good hockey doesn't erase how bad he was the entire tournament. He was flopping around like a fish all game.

Leafs are 12th in goals against per games played.

Fair. The bigger point is that the one area we're pretty comfortable with right now is between the pipes.

Stolarz when healthy has put up elite numbers, and with him out the Leafs as a team put on their annual post-Christmas lazy winter performance which brought all the numbers down team-wide, including Woll's who had similarly been putting up great numbers.

In any case it's a moot point. Marner isn't getting moved by MLSE, period. And if anyone substantial is being brought in/moved out it's likely picks/prospects (of which we have very few) to acquire depth scoring of which we have literally none.

This is why Canada needed to lose yesterday. A bunch of sore winner f***bags overrating 99% of the players, including Marchand playing as a joke yet gloating like he scored the OT winner.

Binnington is still a trash goaler and yesterday will be bad because he now will go into the Olympics as Canada's starter lol.
A trash goalie who knows how to win!

Does HF have the memory of gold fish? 10 minutes of good hockey and now he’s the best goalie in the league or something?

I mean I'd go with the consistent showing up in big games. Him pretty much stealing the championship for Canada once they got there wasn't really a surprise.

But yeah, trading Marner for a goalie where the Leafs are at makes no sense. They could get alot more for Marner or just re-sign him and use lesser pieces to trade for Binnington, probably comparable to Markstrom's trade.

Binnington is trash even though he carried the Blues to a Stanley Cup in 2019, Binnington is trash even though he was one of the leagues best goalies last year, Binnington is trash even though he pretty much single-handedly won Canada the game last night - who's issue throughout the tournament was scoring, not goaltending. When he does the same in the Olympics for gold it will be the same story.

He has a really good track record of being a capable starting goalie for a large amount of games in the regular season and absolutely stealing series in the playoffs. The narrative isn't going to change for some, but the proof has been on display for years. You want to blame anything for 20-21 through 22-23 there are a myriad of other reasons you can blame that are logical, but you've seemed to already have made up your mind on Binnington for one reason or another.

lol struggling with the loss.

We have Woll and Stolarz, no need for Binnington. And absolutely not for Marner, straight up disrespectful proposal.

Binnington just shows up at TD Gardens, game 7 cup win there and now Gold vs USA.

So the Blues, a team well outside the playoffs, are going to trade their starting goalie while his value is at it's highest for a guy who will hit UFA in a few months? And the Blues have to add value to do so?

"Please Toronto. Please take our goalie, some picks/prospects, and maybe another roster player for Marner. We NEED 18 pointless games from Marner before he tests the market."

This makes zero sense unless Marner is extended. The Blues aren't in win-now mode and, if they were, they wouldn't be trading their starting goalie.

I don’t think Binnington makes all that much sense for Toronto? Seems like they’d maybe have better solutions available if they wanted to adjust their goalie situation. I’d guess Carolina or Edmonton would be better fits.

Parayko would be a better fit as a headline for the return which would need to include other good stuff, but then the problem becomes; stl is so bad without proper defense that why would anybody sign an extension.

I wouldn’t dismiss stl from big deals around pending free agents; its state legislature is considering a change in state tax policy. We’ve seen this seemingly impact free agency decisions in the past. I wouldn’t be surprised if some bigger name free agent in the future picks stl. I don’t think Marner is that guy. Not time yet.

With Woll and Stolarz healthy, for the first time in a long time, our concern isn't with goaltending.

Emotional momentum notwithstanding, Binnington rose to the occasion, but our needs are not met by moving Marner for another goalie, unless we're moving our goalies for a replacement for Marner.

Seems needlessly circular.

What would have to be included to make this happen? Either team possibly interested? Gives both teams, a key piece.

Binner has this season @6M, and two more at the same price then UFA. Marner had 10.9M this season then UFA.

STL would have to add players Scheen (6.5M till 28/29), or Suter, prospects, or picks? Or Toronto would? One for One?
Thats just stupid. Leafs have 2 very good goalies. Not interested. I tell you what, give us your first and Parayko and then maybe we give you Nylander if we are in a good mood.

Toronto is solid for goalies with Woll and Stolarz.

I could not care less if Marner walks for nothing after this season. I do not want him back with the Leafs next season. Don’t want anything to do with Binnington either. I don’t care that he was in goal when Canada won the four nations, I don’t like his game at all.

Neither team does it.

Makes no sense for the Blues to trade Binnington for a pending UFA, and makes no sense for the Leafs to trade a top forward for a goaltender when that isn't currently a positional need.

It makes far more sense to talk Oilers, Hurricanes or Blue Jackets in a trade for a goaltender.

I think Binnington is a good goalie but the Leafs are pretty much set there. We need a 3rd line center and a top right handed defenseman. How about a signed Marner, Fraser Minten and a first for Schenn and Parayko? Everyone besides Minten has a no movement clause so it won't happen anyway, but those two would be a perfect fit for the Leafs and they've already won a cup with Berube too.
