Bill Guerin investigated for alleged abuse

We speak hyperbolically, being 100% literal is pretty weird, dude
You are being quite hyperbolic in this case. And you haven't really demonstrated that even a tiny subset of people think it is okay to abuse your boss

You were the one that inferred that "people" must mean "a very large and significant number of people". Perhaps don't do that instead?
Generally when you talk about "people" in this sense, you are talking about a group of people that is generally some significant part of the population. Maybe not over 50%, but probably more than <1%. I also didn't say "very large", I just said "large", which implies there is more than a handful of people in the world that subscribe to such a mindset.

If I say "people get so offended these days", do you think I'm just talking about one tiny specific subset of people that is barely worth discussing?

You’re making a lot of inferences here that probably say more about yourself than they do about anything I’be said.

If you let me know what has actually got you so triggered, we can actually discuss what’s really bothering you instead of beating around the bush here.

If an employee tells their boss to ‘f*** off’, it’s not seen as a big deal because the employee doesn’t have power in that relationship.

However, if the boss says the same to an employee it’s abusive due to the power dynamics.

There are (mostly chronically online) people who believe this.

The oppressed cannot hurt their oppressors kind of insanity.

Words are violence, silence is violence kind of crowd

It's not seen as a big deal by WHO? Twelve people? It's also pretty telling that you conflate people who believe in "power dynamics" as also being okay with telling your boss to "f*** off" without retribution of some kind.

I'm sorry that requesting information that demonstrates your claims comes across as triggering, but I can't help but be skeptical of claims I find to be ridiculous.

It’s not super clear what kind of information you’re requesting. How am I supposed to know the exact number of people who think this way? That’s not even at all relevant to the point.

You’re arguing about how large a brush someone intends to use when they say ‘people’.

Like what’s your point? I don’t understand why you’re so defensive about the term ‘people’

I don't believe I asked for a specific number, though considering how quick you were to assert that in most cases someone complaining about their boss is just trying to save their own skin I don't know why you would find requests for evidence to be objectionable. I'm just looking for a general idea of how many people you think believe it is okay to tell your boss to "f*** off". 10%? 20%? Half? Most? An insignificant amount? If you don't know then you don't know.

People like this usually think it’s okay to yell at your boss, or accuse them of abuse, or call them racist, or whatever lies they want to spin to keep the job they’re incompetent at.
I haven't really seen anything you have brought to the table actually substantiate this or any other claim about this "type of people", so anything at all would be great to facilitate the discussion. Or is this just you spitballing based on anecdotes in your own work experience?

Once his AGM quit, I kind of figured it was Guerin at that point.

Absolutely would not want that guy as my teammate, I guess he didn't become a better person once he retired.

He covered up sexual assault when he was in Pittsburgh/Wilkes-Barre so yea, not a great person at all.

He yelled at a guy and that’s it? It’s a hockey club. It’s not a kindergarten.

I agree to an extent but it depends on what he said.

"Do your damn job" is one thing but he could've gone on a n Ari Gold style rant which wouldn't have been OK.

I certainly have my own anecdotes, but I feel like I’m getting baited here and this is going to end in an infraction

EDIT:

I can’t respond to an emoji, but this exact thing happened to me on Friday, and I got hit with a “I think we’re done here” and an infraction for “spam, ads, off topic or thread highjacking”

I’ve got enough points right now, I don’t know how many it takes before I’m banned. I don’t really want to find out

Humiliation is controlled by each and every person.

One allows themself to feel humiliated.

Don't allow yourself to feel humiliated, you win. Unfortunately society today teaches not to humiliate, instead of how to handle humiliation.

Two vastly different concepts.
How zen of you.

I get the position you are taking, but I'm sure you can imagine scenarios where you could be utterly humiliated, no matter how in control you think you are.

I like the people in this thread who aren't necessarily just defending Guerin but are dismissive of verbal abuse as a concept.
Gotta wonder what % are Tradies

Many don’t perceive harassing behavior as negative, because it is so common.
Many are unaware of their employers code of conduct, are freelancer/self-employed, or work for an employer who doesn't have one.
