The playoffs are obviously completely different.

Regular season, the average casual fan wants a result after committing 2+ hours to a game. We all know the shootout and such are not great but at the very least, it brings closure to the event.
If you say so.

But 60 minutes of hockey ending 3-3 is a "result"
Taking breakaway shots like recess in the school yard adds a second "result"

- NHL ticket prices (Hockey is/was a blue collar sport. It’s absolutely f***ing disgusting how the average Joe has been priced out of the fun, arena hockey experience all because all the NHL just want money and stuffy, corporate stiff clientele whom are willing/dumb enough to pay extortionate prices for a night out. Most of which don’t even give 2 shits about the game and are just there to “be seen.”)
It's for suckers and rich folk.
Soooo many yawners in the regular season. I actually left a game late second period a couple seasons ago. Habs leafs in T.O. The tickets were given to us
free and we still felt jilted. ha!
Hit a bar downtown. Game on in the back ground no volume. More enjoyable time. We laughed that some guys were paying $1200 for a pair out front. lol

The late period penalties which carry forward to the next period. They seems to have a much lower conversion rate.

- Every player having to have a nickname,so contrived and mostly unoriginal.

- The drop pass on the power play

- People complaining about dives & infractions being called at the same time even though it's factually possible for both to occur at the same time.

- Excessive complaining about Gary Bettman. (Hardly think he's perfect, just that the complaints are overdone.)

"Fighting is allowed in the NHL"

No it f***ing isn't. It's a penalty. It's against the rules. It's just not against the rules enough.
People always look p dumb when they say fighting needs to be banned. It is. Just like tripping, hooking, slashing someone across the head. It’s all banned. Words have meanings.

Instead maybe suggest harsher penalties for fighting infractions.

Not holding referees publicly accountable for obvious missed calls, phantom calls and the dreaded "make up call!"

If a penalty is borderline, and/or egregious it should be reviewable just as offsides are and the same rules apply.

Refs seem to be ALWAYS in the way now. Getting in the way of players on the rush, and pucks are bouncing off of them during the cycle and even clearing attempts.
Is there anything worse than the low referee being in the wrong corner, staying put and not moving off the boards and thereby breaking up a cycle. A linesman being 15 feet inside a blueline and forcing a clearing pass out into open ice.

Not much you can do about the low referee, but a head high clear usually delivers a strong message to any linesman being too much a part of the game.

Belief in the non-existent "Loser Point". Don't like the extra point? Okay, remove it from the team that 'wins' a gimmicky OT/SO contest. The real hockey game ended in a tie. If one team was better, they would've won in 60 minutes. They didn't. So both teams split the 2 points, just like they did through hockey history.

It amazes me that some fans are so starved for a win they'll place their faith in a 5-minute skills competition over a complete and legitimate hockey game.
Yeah I get what yer sayin, but Gary says "the fans love it and that it's the best part of the game!" Gary also said that "Americans won't accept ties" I guess that when he was a kid he saw that WWII movie where some US sailors were talking baseball on the night before the big battle, and able seaman 1 says to able seaman 2 "that a tie is like kissing yer sister."

*I'm thinking able seaman 1 may have been played by James Whitmore but who knows?

Calling the boards 'the wall'.

Calling the hash marks 'the half wall'.

Calling a goalie stick a 'paddle'.

So-called advanced stats.

The stupid scrums after every big hit. It used to be that clean hits were accepted, now we have stupidity after each one. If you get tagged, you get tagged. Deal with it. If the hit is cheap, dirty, etc. then yeah, by all means start something afterwards but not for clean hits.

#1 Diving, it's embarassing for the league. And those players who desparately seek blood for an extra 2 minutes...dumbest rule in the league....which leads me to....
#2 Officiating, little stick check infractions get called then the team on the PK usually gets away with a greater infraction because they are short handed. You should be able to be stronger on the stick in hockey, that's a real shit call. Offside reviews are definitely up there in pet peeves. Shouldn't take 5+ minutes to decide a goal when you have 4 officials clogging up the ice already.
#3 Gambling ads. Hockey used to teach kids to drink beer and drive Fords.
#4 Shootouts. That's bush league for a professional sports league. Unlimited 3 on 3 would be better.

This x10000000000000000000

Hockey is supposed to be a contact sport.

If the puck is on your stick, you’re gonna get hit/nailed clean. Man up and f***ing deal with it.

Especially for multi-millions of dollars they make in their careers.

That's not true and you don't know if the hit was clean, or dirty in real time. You see a player down, it's better to react and have the player be fine than to do nothing and the player is hurt.

Scrums after big hits were fairly common before. People assume they weren't just because players use to start a donnybrook just because someone looked funny at someone.

I'll 100% take players having a terrible scrum and falling down after a big hit than doing nothing until a few shifts later where you drill someone from behind, or slewfoot them, or whatever other dirty shit would happen.

The refs ruining the pace of the game with questionable calls. Nothing more infuriating than a good game being stopped every 3 minutes do to whistle happy refs.

- Fans at games who yell “SHOOOOOOOT!!!!” when their team is on the powerplay. The players can’t hear you and if they somehow can…maybe they are choosing to wait to shoot/are passing the puck for a reason. There’s a huge reason why these guys are pros… and your drunk ass work at 7-11 five nights a week.

Sit the f*** down.
