Late to the party but I realized I never gave my personal opinion for the Bolts. I’m going to go with Brayden Point. Nikita Kucherov is probably a close second. There were players who were far worse, especially Emil Lilleberg, but I’m thinking about it in terms expectations compared to what actually happened. I expected Lilleberg to suck, and that’s exactly what he did. I did not expect Brayden Point to disappear. He normally shows up big in the playoffs.

Definitely. But Leafs fans will (generally) produce excuses for him and put the blame on Marner. It's bizarre how much the Leafs fan base protects Matthews. Sure, Marner is terrible when it matters, too. But Matthews is the franchise player. He's the "man". He's got the size that should make him effective in the tougher playoff games.

Marner produces points, but he'll never be looked at as "the guy". He's a complimentary star and his style doesn't really translate to tough playoff games. But he'll take all the heat while Matthews will get another free pass.

Ivan Demidov, who just weeks ago we were told was the second coming of Mario Lemieux, Wayne Gretzky and Guy Lafleur combined, hit the scoresheet in one out of 5 games (2 assists) and played horrific defense.

Are you seriously calling out a player for looking bad during his first 5 NHL games -which happened to be in the play-offs? You need to lessen the caffeine intake or something.

My intention wasn’t even to trash them. But more so show that calling a great player pathetic because they’ve not had the same success in the playoffs that they do during the regular season, is dumb.

I think what they were saying is those Sharks players (save for Pavelski) serially underwhelmed in the play-off’s, but “Sharks underwhelming” is still a round or two past the core 4’s peak to date.

thought Caufield was fine, maybe a bit snakebit. He and Suzuki always come to play against the Caps so I think he would’ve gotten his eventually if they extended the series.

Caufield is closer to 5’6. Still effective, though.

One line teams get killed in the playoffs, and the habs couldn’t rest guys down the stretch as they just barely made it in. They had guys like Armia who couldn’t shoot but still played. At the end of the regular season only the top line was scoring, and those guys got worn down.

The team isn’t complete or balanced so knocking individual players is a bad idea. With young teams that don’t have the players to compete it’s easy to throw guys under the bus, trade them for minimal return, and watch them succeed in a role they can play on a team that has most roles filled. It’s easy to bash Matheson, but if the team had a real top pairing he wouldn’t be playing 28 minutes a night against strong competition.

They made it to the playoffs, and saw how other teams played. They also saw that the refs wouldn’t call cross checks to the face from big guys on small guys, and that is a lesson to remember.

The defense was stretched thin all year and couldn’t cope after Carrier was taken out. They couldn’t get by without Savard during the season, and he retired because he’s done. Hutson was better than I would have expected, I thought he’d get killed in the playoffs, with no call.

Everyone not named Jack Eichel on the Knights. Stone was also decent at times but, he was very injured too so, I’ll give him the benefit of the doubt. Rest of the team didn’t look very engaged.

Knights seem content to rest on their 2023 laurels for a while. Will they get hungry again? Who knows. The local take is that the team spends nearly all their time playing golf and this hockey stuff is a real annoyance to them.

People saying Demidov for the Canadiens are being too harsh. But there are right in pointing out his lack of defensive skills which was still apparent when he was playing in the KHL and it's JR league. We just have to wait and see till next season if he does improve there.

Makar for the Avs & a little harsh but Byfield was directly responsible for some high profile mistakes that allowed the Oilers back in the game.

Kucherov just needs to LOCK TF in for the next possible 2-3 playoff appearances. It sucks that he has 2-3 guys almost immediately on him everytime he touches the puck but great players find ways to produce, IDC. McDrai and Sid/Malkin went through more egregious shit and they still got the job done. Kuch is on that level.

2020-2021 were great, but 2016 and 2022 are all playoff runs that he unequivocally has in his DNA IMO.
