Ìf you compare the losses for each nation, who´s the biggest loser at this point?

Sweden:

Näslund

Johnsson

Kronwall

And Forsberg´s chanses arent that great either, I´d say about 30%

I would add "losing your starting goalie, and then losing your other starting goalie"

Miikka Kiprusoff,
Kari Lehtonen, .
Tuomo Ruutu,
Sami Kapanen,
Ossi Väänänen
Pitkänen?

The only superstar in this bunch, is Kipper.

But Kapanen, for example, is very important player for us so losing him is very big loss for Team Finland, maybe not for Canada. And add Pitkänen on the list.

And the only superstar sweden's lost this far is Näslund. Pitkänen,Väänänen, S.Kapanen, K.Lehtonen are more important to team Finland than Kronwall and Johnsson would be for Sweden.

Sweden have a bigger depth of players. There is no way a player like Nummelin or Niemi would even be reserve #100 on a swedish list.

In depth charts finland has lost #1 and #2 goalies, 2 players from the top 6 forwards, #1 defenseman and #6 defenseman

It's not even close with anyone else. Sweden has lost one forward who has never been a big asset for them anyway in the big tournaments, and two defensemen who would not fit in first two pairings....and they have lost no goalies. They'd be starting Tellqvist if they had the same situation...

Johnsson would be our #3 defender after Nik and Öhlund, Kronwall would be our #4-5 after Norström. If he had played this whole season, Id probably say he¨d have a shot at being our #1, he´s just that good.

Hehehe...you are exaggerating a "bit". Nummelin is the best offensive defenseman outside NHL and would rank in the top 10 in NHL too. But he is crap in his own end. He would certainly rank in the top 10 in swedish depth chart, and AJ Niemi would be in the top 15-20 probably. Yeah sweden has more depth but not THAT much more.

Johnsson has not been that good this year. I would rank Norström ahead of him.

And yeah if Tuomo Ruutu had played this whole season he'd have a serious shot at being our #1 too, he's just that good.

Well, Nummelin had his shot in NHL but didn't manage to keep his spot on the Jackets' roster. I've hard time to believe he'd be a top10 offensive defenceman in NHL.

I meant that his offensive side is good enough to be in the top 10 nhl offensive defensemen. But his defense is not good enough because of his size.

He is definitely up there with Pitkänen and Timonen, but only on the offensive side. His overall game (and a bad break) is what kept him out of the NHL..not his great talent offensively.

I know what you mean. Pitkänen is much better in the offensive zone than Nummelin, and call me nuts but I think Timonen is as well. Nummelin plays very good in Europe, but the Swiss league is not NHL.

But since this is only speculation let's agree to disagree here.

True, but that says more about the Finnish team than it does about Tuomo unfortunately. We have 4 centers that I´d pick before Tuomo; Sundin, Foppa, Zetterberg and H.Sedin.

Koivu is a great playmaker but lacks many other important aspects of the game, Selänne is a great scorer but lacks other important aspects of the game, Lehtinen is pretty good at everything, but not great at anything except defensively. Together however, they could be deadly. However, aside from that line, the Finnish team has no real depth. But as we all know, motivation usually adds up pretty well against a lazy more talented team, so who knows. God how I hate your Finnish "Sisu", hehe..

Havent seen Selänne & Koivu much this season, but Selänne seems to do better than the previous years, too bad he´s so one-dimensional.

If Sturm misses the Games, then Germany suffered the biggest loss.
Team GER is the team that is in the most dire need of a goal getter.
Defence, goaltending, all en par with the "big 7" nations, but scoring is the teams absolute weakspot and without sturm there is no patch for that. Sturm doesn't play all that nice but he somehow puts pucks into the net, garbage or not, a goal is a goal and we would desperately need his goals...

ummmm... what has Foppa being better than Selänne anything to do with this topic? No one disagrees with you that Sweden has the better players, but that's not the question.

Foppa being better than Selänne?? What?

Re-read my post, even though its a given, where did I write that Foppa is better than Selänne?

We were talking about Tuomo, and I stated that even though he might be the nr:1 center in Finland, he´d have a hard time even making the Swedish squad as a center. Never wrote anything about Foppa -----> Selänne.,

My point was that you have made several comparisons between Swedish and Finnish players in this thread, which has nothing to do with the topic.

Yes it does, considering that you do need to compare the skill of the players at hand, and the impact they would have to their team Vs their status in general.

For example, if Canada loses a star:ish player, it wont be as bad as Finland losing one, due to the fact that they (Canada) have an almost endless pool of talents to pick from.
