Biggest Disappointment This Season

Who has been the biggest disappointment in the Oiler Organization this season

Drake Caggiula having a higher goals per game as an Oiler than Lucic, Puljujarvi, Holloway, Brown, McLeod, tied with Henrique and just a shade below Foegele is embarrassing.

This organization has serious issues getting the best from the forwards they bring in.

The rate of success for support forwards is just totally f***ed up on this team.

Beniot Pouliot in his 3 years in Edmonton scored at a higher goals per game than Foegele, Arvidsson, McLeod, Holloway, Skinner, Puljujarvi, Brown, Lucic did in their time here.

So did Alex Chiasson, who wasn't even an add by our scouts but brought in on a recommendation by Glen Gulutzan.

Drake Caggiula is also way up there for production.

Go figure that one out.

Despite having no less than three pretty good playmaking centers (McDavid, Draisaitl, RNH) only three wingers total have scored at a 25 goal or better rate here ... Hyman, Kane, and Maroon and that's it.

No they don’t. The core of this team went to game seven last year. And they somewhat corrected their start this year.

Have some faith in the process and enjoy the ride.

Especially seeing as you don’t have the information to chart a better path.

Seems a little odd to suggest that the team's play doesn't drive the faith. If the goaltending sucks, then people don't have faith in the goaltending. The team that went to game 7 is 30% different. Tell me how Arvidsson, J. Skinner, Kapanen, Podkolzin, Emberson, Walman, Klingberg, et al have your faith. McDavid hasn't been himself all year, RNH, Hyman have had off years. Bouchard has been up and down.

That said, I do believe that there is reason to be optimistic with Walman. Having our defensive pairs over the next 10 games will give us a good idea of what it will look like. Kapanen, J. Skinner Podkolzin looked good last game. Having RNH at C has looked great in the last two games. So in the last couple games the faith goes up based on the result.

Faith in the process when the process has been flawed for a long time takes results to develop. I am hopeful they figure it out.

Unless he got that one more injury which he never recovered from.

And his style and history indicates a high probability.

Yeah. Although I'm curious to see how next season goes for him. Lots of young guys get a big boost their first year on a team and fall off.

It's kind of funny how the story has changed on the offer sheets. At first it was losing Broberg that was the monumental mistake, but as predicted, the PDO bender dropped off and now he has 9 points in his last 41 games. Looks like the Oilers dodged a bullet on that one at least.

Wanting to win the hart and wanting the cup don’t have to be mutually exclusive.

They just need to make sure that they don’t drop their chances of winning the cup pursuing the hart.

I think a good coaching strategy would be to commend the strong year he’s had and indicate how great it would be to follow it up with a conn smythe.

Even if the guy does fall off it's not exactly the worst cap situation to be in.

Just feel the Oilers could've actually signed him to two year deal at a bit less, but for whatever reason they didn't make him any sort of priority.

That's a factor that doesn't really get talked about enough. He's arbitration eligible.

There's been a bunch of guys like McLeod that don't even get qualified because their teams are terrified of the arbitration award.

The Sabres might suck enough to just not worry about it, but there's a really good chance he's getting paid or walking.

I don't really mean the cap situation. Just that if he does come back down to earth, it isn't the worst loss.

It sounds like that was on the table, but Holloway wanted something just above what they could realistically do. Running a 20 man roster or trading Kulak(basically the only movable money) would have been a disaster.

McLeods agent is probably licking his chops after seeing Greenway's contract.

Yes Greenway has an element McLeod doesn't, but McLeod is also their best faceoff guy, puts up points and is their top center on PK

At some point you have to show some sort of confidence in your drafted and developed players though.

It never had to come down to trading Kulak either if they wouldn't have re-signed Henrique and signed Arviddson and Skinner. They choose 3 forwards over Holloway. None of which are actually working the way the Oilers wanted.
 
Buffalo will be big fish hunting this offseason and 5 RFAs(McLeod, Peterka, Byram,Bernard-Docker, Quinn) to sign. McLeod might end up walking if he's looking at 5M+

With that said, we can do them a favor and take Peterka off their hands

They signed them with enough money leftover for Holloway. He just chose to take a bunch more money elsewhere.
