I don't want to see either of them go to Edmonton. It would also help Carolina and Arizona's fanbase too. But anyways, whoever wins the lottery gets one of them.

Auston Matthews needs to go to Arizona next year.

A superstar that's actually from the area, an area which isn't populated by too many hockey players, would help the whole franchise, not too mention how much it'd help minor hockey in Arizona as a whole.

I want the Oilers to be a competitive team the rest of the way. Really tired of them being terrible and just banking on high draft picks come in and being asked to save the team.

But part of me hopes it happens just so I can taste the salt of crap bloggers like this author and all the HFboard cry babies.

I think the NHL needs to re-do the lottery (I hate tanking) ... evenly spread out the chances of teams that didn't make the playoffs for the #1 overall pick

This, a hometown superstar would do wonders.

What would be best for the NHL is if the Flyers somehow get lucky enough to win the lottery, draft McDavid and watch him go head to head with Crosby for years to come.

"Jack Eichel and Connor McDavid need to succeed. Considering the absurd amount of hype around these two prospects, it’s vital that they’re put in spots that have high potential for growth.

They must go to places where they can help push the game to new and unseen heights. They need to go to places that have never seen prodigies with their prodigious skill sets."

Well considering Pittsburgh was on the verge of relocation and almost seemingly endlessly trying to dig themselves out of a hole, the 2004 and 2005 drafts sure did them wonders when 2 guys essentially turned around a franchise. Not to mention finalizing the deal and landing themselves in the Consol Energy Center.

Carolina isn't a bad hockey market at all, they're just a bad team. They already have a cup to their resume. Arizona has some exciting players and I think McEichel could have a huge impact on that franchise in terms of fan base, and albeit more difficult in the middle of desert, hype among some players can do wonders.

If Arizona or Carolina wins the lottery, they have every right draft either McDavid or Eichel if they choose to do so. I'm sure fans of either team would be absolutely elated if they end up with either of those two players.

broken clock is right twice a day.

I see his point on this though. I think either would be great for Buffalo for the franchise, city & even economy. however, I would like the NHL to succeed and right now the U.S. dollar is carrying the league so i would like both to stay in the states. not to mention it can help two different markets (potentially)

plus EDM would give us so much "great one" hype. I do not want to put up with it lol :help:

Please no McDavid in Toronto. Sports media here in Canada is already Leafs non-stop despite them being horrible forever, if they got McDavid the Leafs media would smother this kid to death before he left the draft.

This is a trash article from a trash hockey news source. Whoever wins the lottery gets the player...simple as that. There is no deserve about it.

Pittsburgh turned their franchise around with stable ownership and management. Crosby and Malkin were huge for them, but an inept franchise blows that opportunity and maybe moves anyway, or just stays mediocre. Phoenix and Carolina are going to be budget clubs for eternity. They will not generate high-end revenue and will struggle to be a Cup contender because of that. Obviously things can break right for either franchise as it already has for Carolina, just as any team can bounce into the finals once in a while.

Bettman's forced expansion necessitates a number of franchises to be this way. That's just the way it is, and that means a watered down talent level league wide and watered down fan interest in the newer markets. Getting the newest shiny draft pick IS NOT going to change that. One player will not make or break the success of an expansion market. It takes committed ownership to spend above revenue intake and smart management to build around that player, if they even get the budget increase from ownership.

Otherwise, as it is in Carolina, Arizona, and too many other markets, great players will peak interest for maybe a season, but then the mediocre status will reinforce the watered down fan interest and the franchise will still go nowhere or worse. Imagine the setback for a fan base when they realize even McDavid can't bring them into the playoffs . Even though Carolina had success, they now sit near the bottom of ticket sales and ticket revenue, and the team remains on a budget. You just can't make a market truly like hockey, even after the dice roll their way.

Bottom line is, no player is a franchise savior. It takes ownership and management that want to build a consistently good on-ice product, even at a financial loss. If the bottom line matters to the owner, then only a true hockey market that grows revenue through thick and thin will keep a team competitive on a regular basis.
