Bigger choke in the first round?

Biggest choke?

teams blow a 2 goal lead all the time. Its not a choke, im sorry, its just not. The jets were also 1.6 seconds away from losing the game. Lets not act like they won 6-0.
Teams don't blow 2 goal leads in the last two minutes all the time nevermind in a Game 7. It has to be taken into account that this happened in a do or die game. The Kings choke happened in a 2-1 series.

there is no heroic comeback for a president trophy winning against a wildcard 2 team. Its an expected result for them to win. There is no world in which the blues losing that series comes anywhere close to choke territory.

When your goalie can't stop a beach ball, and your 1C is injured, and your 1D is injured early in the 1st, and you have to score two goals with your goalie pulled, that is one heck of a heroic comeback.

*against an 8th seed team as a president trophy winner. Im sorry, i just dont see that way. The jets should never have been in that situation to begin with. You dont get f*** up and create a problem then act like its a heroic comeback when you win the series that you should have won anyway.

except its not. Blues were missing thier most electric player too. Thats not the card to play.

I’m taking all the context into account. I picked the Avs because.
1. It was a star player that they traded away in a shocking way that single-handedly eliminated them after being down by 2 in the third.
2. And the main reason being that if they close this game out they become instantly one of the favourites to win the cup. St. Louis doesn’t do jack shit after this series. St. Louis lost a series but the avs lost a serious chance at the cup

The Blues is worse in a vacuum, but the Avs are probably the betting title favorites if they won this with a pretty nice Avs offense vs Helle matchup next round, and not terrifying Knights-Oilers CF, so getting teabagged by Rantanen will hurt more in the long run.

Just based on the narrative alone, the Avs.
Literally an epic story of redemption by Rantanen straight out of a Hollywood script.

The way the Blues played the final 2 minutes was the worst decision making I have ever seen in my life. Firing pucks around the boards instead of high flips out. Icing the puck instead of skating it out of the zone. Giving the Jets all the time and space they wanted with zero puck pressure.

Complete and utter collapse that was perhaps the most embarrassing I have witnessed. They had that game so easy and just gave it away for free with bone headed decisions for 2 minutes straight.
Byfield against the Oilers in the exact reason why skating the puck out of the zone is far from the right choice often

Look at all that space to skate it out of the zone and get the line.. instead it's iced and they lose the game.

GG

The Jets were 1.6 seconds away from winning this poll in a landslide, so you can't really say the Blues choked. I mean, they did choke by definition, but they exceeded expectations overall so it kinda washes out.

1.6 seconds away from the 2nd round and they blew it

its the Blues easily
people are talking about how they shouldn't have even been in game 7 and how they were an 8 seed are out to lunch IMO.

we literally saw what happened in that series, we aren't trying to make predictions in this thread on what might be the biggest choke. St louis brought the series back to game 7, it doesn't matter that they shouldn't have been there, all that matters is they were there

the facts are what you said, and I think if even the chicago blackhawks had a 3-1 lead with 2 minutes left they should be able to close that out

i don't mean to harp on the guy but if the jets lost I wasn't willing to say it was a team choke, rather one individual who choked the entire thing away (Lalime, Clouttier style)

Hellybuyck was awful this series at home and unplayable on the road. I would place the blame squarely at his feet had they lost that game. He was sharp and clutch in the OT's but had they not scored the tying goal he'd have finished with a .850 or so on the game and with another stinky goal against to the blues.

he's been given a chance by his team and a bit by himself to break the narratives and perform against the stars, lets see if he is up to the task :)

Love the Avs, but between their pedigree and the specifics of the scenario, they had the biggest choke.
