Injury Report: Big Buff Discussion

By reading all the comments here -- there are myriads of emotions concerning Buff, and mostly bitter and twisted ones.

I don't blame Buff for what he did, or did not do, as I believe he's basically a good person, who was very unsure and confused about his future.

If he does retire, and it appears he will -- I will remember him for all the great entertainment he provided us, and the quality of hockey he contributed to the Jets.

There will not be another one like him -- so I'd hope fans will soften their stance on his position -and remember him for the great hockey player he was, and all the great memorable moments he gave us.

I don't know what kind of person he is. None us do. It's not like we heard about him saving kittens in his free time. There's also no stories about him torturing puppies.
I know what kind of hockey player he was which was pretty great. But ultimately a guy who just did his job very well.

This saga is annoying but we don't know all the details.

I would have non issue with honoring him like they have past Jets though. Just may have to give it a number of years.

I feel like Buff should be in the Hall of Fame. One of a kind player and if the hall isn't for that it should be.

We are all choked at Buff for leaving it until the last minute before the season, essentially screwing us over. However, there was a poster here that posted in April that he heard from a source that Buff was thinking about retirement. That was before the season was even over. So the front office very well knew Buff was thinking about it. Maybe they knew but just said take your time and make your own decision? But for us to think he completely blind sided the organization is not true. Though he probably still could have made the decision sooner.

So if Buff was thinking about retirement, but hadn't made a decision yet, what would you have had the organization do? Until he actually made the decision his cap space was tied up and they were limited in what they could do. Buff put the team in a very difficult position by dragging this out, it's unfortunate.

Buff was my favorite player but i've moved on , it sucks , the Jets are not as good without him but the guy doesn't want to play hockey anymore , what can you do ? As tough of a situation it put the Jets in i'd rather he did this than cost us games because his heart and head aren't in it anymore .

It was a "heat of the moment" statement from Buff though. They were in touch with him regularly over the summer. First indication that he was serious about retirement was the day before camp. If he was considering retirement last summer and the Jets knew, they couldn't do anything more than they are doing now. Until he retires, it's $7.5 million of cap space they can't use. Chipman and the media have stated it caught the organization by surprise. You can choose to take them at face value or not. The captain also seems to be on the boat that him not playing this year was a bit of a surprise.

Until he actually made the decision his cap space was tied up and they were limited in what they could do. Buff put the team in a very difficult position by dragging this out, it's unfortunate.

At the end of the day, we don't really know what was said. Some reports have said he told them he wanted to retire and management asked him to reconsider and think about it. If that's the truth, it's not on Buff for dragging anything out.

In other news when it was reported Byfuglien contract was being terminated, there was some people speculating if he'd sign somewhere else this season. Considering its now two weeks to the trade deadline and his wife posted a picture of them together in the Caribbean somewhere, I'd say that's gone from extremely unlikely to no way that's happening.
