I don't think any goalie can beat Dryden over a short career. 6 Cups, 5 Vezina Trophies, Conn Smythe Trophy, Calder Trophy, Canada Cup. He did all this in 8 seasons. The guy retired at 31 because he probably had nothing to play for anymore and needed a challenge, Decided to become a lawyer instead.

I agree that Dryden wins between him and Parent. But I think Bill Durnan gives him a run for his money in a "short career" competition.

2 Cups, 6 Vezina Trophies, the last goalie to officially be a Team Captain. Did all this in 7 seasons.

I think in discussions like these it important to note that the Vezina was the modern day Jennings trophy until 1980.

Parent's conn smythe performances are probably interchangeable with Dryden if we're talking peaks but Dryden was more consistent and doesn't have any fat to trim off his career unlike Parent. It doesn't hurt to backstop the greatest Dynasty in league history but still.

At his very best, I think Parent was a bit better, but Dryden had a lot more elite level years.

Thanks for writing this so I didn’t have to.

By today’s standards Dryden won one Vezina, then played two years where he wasn’t a finalist, then three more Vezinas in a row leading into his retirement.

Parent had two Vezinas back-to-back and then suffered a serious neck injury that ended his peak form. He was still good after that, but not the same guy he once was.

IMO, if you are picking one of them to give their very best performance I think Parent has a very good case. But if we’re talking careers, Dryden simply stacked up more top-level seasons.

I’m always so torn on Dryden cause I go back and forth between looking at him in comparison to his backups and Montreal with and without him.. and he looks real good.

But on the other hand some of the posters here could probably have won a cup or two behind the ridiculously stacked team Dryden played on.

I think Parent likely peaked higher but Dryden is the answer here for career.
