If I had Easton Cowan in my system I would take a 5th or 6th just to get him gone after that embarrassment of a performance

This Habs fan will back up the Leafs on this. Cowan is a solid B+ prospect and the WJC failure by team Canada was their managers. Cowan is not your typical offensive leader Canada usually leans on. Manager usage is not Cowan's fault.

At least you understand it. That entire WJC failure was on management. If you are relying on Cowan to be your offensive catalyst on your team, then you already have set your team up for failure.

Very doubtful he becomes a top line winger, but he has continued to improve dating back to his draft year, even though the point total is lower this year. I see him more as a 2nd line winger or a very good 3rd line winger.

I had the same hope with Poehling. His NCAA and world juniors were very solid. Cowan to me projects as a 3rd liner and maybe middle 6F at best... if he reaches is ceiling. Not saying he follows the Poehling road path exactly but I do think 2nd line is a reach for someone like Cowan.

You will know right away when he turns pro. Look at Knies. He shined right away and that's when you know you got a top 6F. Cowan to me will be on a longer develop road and the highest I would say is middle 6F at best. My gut says 3rd liner type talent.

Newhook might be a good comparison.

So who is out there? IMO this is a huge pkg and I expect to see some decent names available

I think what you will find is there aren't many top 6 centers available and several teams would like to add one.

So your "huge package" is really just a middling offer for guys that aren't really available.

It certainly isn't enough to land Pettersson and it's not enough to convince teams that are not selling to sell.

Unless you can convince Buffalo to give up Cozens the suggestion of Brock Nelson seems like the probable answer to the question "who is the best center I can get with Robertson/1st/Cowan?"

What's Cowan's ceiling? If it is a 3C, he should absolutely be available. His numbers so far don't seem to suggest a top 6 C for the NHL.

If that's the case, trade him and bring in a legit top 6 C. The window is now, bring in a guy who can make a legitimate difference now.

Ceiling is a middle 6 winger, who plays with energy and kills penalties and scores 20 goals.

He’s not going to be a huge scorer in the show.

I don't need anything else because you have to be a top prospect to even have a shot at putting up a point in 64 straight games Let alone actually do it.

Not every top prospect is going to do that obviously but you can't set that record and not be a top prospect it's impossible
...the well-travelled Brian Boucher holds the record for Shutout Streak in the NHL @ 332 minutes and 1 second, had a shutout in 5 straight games...never been done before or since...streaks happen...Cowan ranks in the mid twenties or so on most Prospect lists; you know, by those people that get paid to watch and rank them for a living...I know, Reality can be a difficult place to hang around sometimes, but it's the only game in town... :thumbu:
