If the score was out of whack, Gerry Cheevers would move out of the way of a Bobby Hull slapper.
Nice quotes, and no doubt true. For an example of a Bobby Hull slapshot and someone crazy enough to block it, check the video below at around the 1:00 minute mark. Can you guess who the player is before watching the video?

Gretzky did of course have tremendous acuracy. On the flip side, if you're looking for the "deadliest slap shot", then you have to think Gaston Gingras. When he played even people in the stands would wear goalie masks just in case.
I remember those slapshots from his Kitchener Ranger days!!
But I still take McInnes shot for velocity!
Lots of guys can shoot hard today but in those days, Bobby Hull had by far the hardest shot, followed by his brother Dennis.
The other thing is, his stick had a wicked curve resulting in the puck's unpredictably dangerous trajectory. Hopefully its clear on this attachment.
Among other things, Hull also used a stick that was MUCH heavier than modern sticks.Lots of guys can shoot hard today but in those days, Bobby Hull had by far the hardest shot, followed by his brother Dennis.

Hull’s slapshot record is BS. For all practical purposes a 118mph shot is near physically impossible; it’s roughly up to 15% faster than the hardest shots today.
Getting that extra 15% velocity on his shot would require about a third more energy output. I don’t care how strong Hull was, he wasn’t putting an extra 33% more force into a slapshot than every other player in history has.
From the 80's onward, MacInnis, Larson and Iafrate would be the names for the hard slappers. Further back, Richard Martin had an awfully hard and accurate shot. One time in a Sabres open practice, he let one rip and it ricocheted off the crossbar. Unfortunately, it went into the stands and nailed some kid in the face. Never seen so much blood in my life.
