I won't go to any Chicago Deep Dish places anymore  I found their pizza average and never really could get into it

Then, I went to Europe this summer for 5 weeks and had a 10 hour layover in Chicago on the way home...found an AMAZING pizza place as I was trying to ask someone how long it would take to get a cab to check out Wrigley Field

I ended up eating pizza and not making it to the stadium at all

After that, it seemed wrong to eat any "Chicago" pizza in Edmonton

Thanks, how is Chicago Deep Dish? Never tried it, heard mixed reviews.

Mixed reviews is probably the best description. Not that the quality varies, but it's just an average pizza IMO. However, I like the pepperoni they use because it's not boring, has a little spice to it. Haven't had it for a few months though.

have a question in relation to jasper avenue... is this the spot in all of Edmonton? seems like everything goes down there

It is the main avenue downtown but hot spot no, it has picked up last few years with large night clubs, but Whyte Avenue in Edmonton south of the river is the hot spot for gathering . In the summer with the fringe festival it is pretty packed.

Napoli. But in Edmonton I always liked Dallas or Coliseum.

Honestly though after living in Italy I grew to love the pizzas they make there, especially in Napoli.

Napoli?

So is Famosa's similar as they claim to be?

I've never been to Famosa's so I can't say. Really good Italian style pizzas are rarer than rocking horse poop in Canada though. The thick crust seems more popular.

I have found a few good ones here and there though. There's a good place on Commercial Drive in Vancouver but damned if I can recall the name right now (getting senile I guess).

Well, if you live in Edmonton or next time you are through town, there is one on Jasper ave and around 114st or South Common. They are supposed to be authentic, and it would be interesting to hear a comparison from someone who has had the real thing.

Really good pizza, i suggest the bbq chicken which is AMAZING. Definitely worth a try. Supporting local business is always great.

Pizza 99 down the road isn't too bad, although it's horrible the next day so eat up that night.

I have been living in Vancouver (well now North Vancouver) since returning to the land of the frozen. But my Kids, Sister, friends, and various other family live in the Edmonton area so I still get there now and then. I will check it out next time I am in town.

The original Royal Pizza off of Whyte Avenue. Actually, it isn't the original location. I'm old enough to remember when it was next door and then moved to its current location when Kings and Queens Pool Hall moved!

Who remembers the location of the very first Boston Pizza ever and for what they became famous?

Inglewood. I used to live (and eat) there when I was a wee lad.

I believe there was an old style Burger King across the street.

Used to go see Sinbad movies (no not the comic) at weekend matinees at the Towne Cinema as well. Anybody remember doing that?

Can Am races at Speedway too.

Much more vibrant area back in those days.

I donno about best pizza in Edmonton to be honest. When I get delivery I'll get Panago which I quite enjoy but wouldn't say it's the best pizza ever.

Lately I've been enjoying Decapo. It's a cafe on 109th street a couple business down from the Garneau theatre. When I want thin crust (which I don't when I have a pizza craving) I prefer Decapo over Famoso.

That's the Italian way of saying Naples. The best pizza in the world is in that city. I was lucky enough to eat at a particular place that consistently wins the best pizza in the world competitions.

I've never been to Famosa's so I can't say. Really good Italian style pizzas are rarer than rocking horse poop in Canada though. The thick crust seems more popular.

I only spent a month in Italy so I'm not an expert but Famoso is the only place that I've had that is even remotely close and they do a pretty damn good job. All Italian ingredients (as in brought in from Italy) including the flour, tomatoes, and prosciutto make it the closest you will get to real Italian pizza. Thin crust, oven roasted, sweet tomatoes, and drizzled olive oil to top it off.

I don't know but I remember in the 1960s there was a Boston Pizza on Jasper Avenue near the old Corona Hotel I think on the south side between 107 and 108 Streets.

They were 'famous' for the 99-cent NOONER an 8" single pizza that if it wasn't ready in 15 minutes after you put in your order it was free! Sadly, I never was successful in getting a free one despite many, many tries!

It was near the end of 1960s not the early 60s when I remember going to the old Edmonton Gardens with my father to watch the Oil Kings in the Memorial Cup....sadly not the 1963 win but the earlier ones as we moved to Lac La Biche in 1962.
