Back when I lived in Edmonton (pre-2004) it was Funky Pickle or nothing. I don't know if they're the same quality as they were back then or not, but hot diggity, I loved their pizza more than I love wearing pants.

I'd go with Funky Pickle, for best pepperoni pizza i'd go with Boston Pizza. Worst place in the entire world is some mom and pop place in Surrey, BC, next to the Mac's off of Whalley Ring road. The pepperoni was actually bologna, the crust might have been cardboard, sauce was ragu and there was maybe a few shavings of cheese on it, but at least it was only $1.00.

Here's the issue: Funky Pickle isn't real pizza. Not in either the Italian or Greek sense (or Chicago or New York for that matter). I was so angry the day they threw one up on the university campus. Typical Hippie move to replace a popular chain with a niche chain. It's bland, has essentially no sauce, they undercook the cheese and rely entirely on whacked-out toppings to sell pizza.

Pizza of last resort.

In the city: Dallas Pizza

Out of town: Gus' Pizza (Hinton, and order the freaking Dry Ribs)

Italian Style (I'm a more Greek-style fan): Famoso

best takeout pizza is from a place called AB Free Topping Pizza, right behind the Wye Road Save on Foods in sherwood park...it's pretty much edmonton, so there! :P

Still though, it's a great place for a couple of big pizzas, a variety of toppings and a reasonable price for the quality. It's my favourite pizza to take home for a hockey game or to have with the wife while we raid, have friends over or just because we happen to like pizza a lot.

Parkallen Restaurant, 109 St. NW. Incredible Lebanese pizza; still crave it and I haven't lived in Edmonton in over a decade.

I just checked out their menu and didn't see any pizzas. Are you talking about zaatar?

Oh. No. You. Didnt!

That ignited my tastebuds something fierce!!!

Now I have to google a Lebanese restaurant in Calgary!

Any help, Rin?

It's okay... let them post whatever they want.

Not like there's much else to talk about...

New Thread

Franco's as mentioned earlier is an old time fav, but I can't believe Saccomanno's didn't get any more votes, that place is unreal. If it were in a better location it would be hands down the best!

I don't have the power to bust out a new thread...

How about best wings in town?? Anyone wanna start it up?

I'm really bored for my last 3 weeks here at work!!

I'm Lebanese, but have never been to Cowgary. If you want zaatar though, I think it is fairly easy to make. A lazy zaatar recipe is to just buy the zaatar (there must be some lebanese stores there that you can get it from, I know of a few in Edmonton) and put some in a bowl, put some olive oil in another bowl, get some pita bread. Then, just tear off pieces of pita bread, dip it in the oil, then in the zaatar, then enjoy.

If this doesn't quite cure the craving, I'll look in my mom's cook book for a zaatar recipe...and hope it is written in english...and has measurements.

Florida Pizza is by far the Best.....possibly because I grew up on it, and even worked there.

The secret to Florida pizza is the sauce is much more flavourful then any other I have encountered (I know at least one of the special ingredients). The closest I found is Rose Bowl pizza and order the spicy pizza sauce.

I don't ever remember a pizza hut in Devon, so I don't know how long ago that would have been.

after hearing others rave about Monty's Pizza, and checking it on on Trip Advisor (its rate #1 in edmonton restraunts) myself and some colleagues are going to check it out for lunch. Pretty intrested to see what all the fuss is about. Does anyone have any recommendations for pizza type to try from here?

I know the topic is "Edmonton Pizza", but I'm new to Millwoods. Does anybody have any suggestions for pizza, (or other good restaurants) down here in the hood?

Thanks

My favorite is Royal Pizza, there's a relatively new one open near Millwoods mall. I find it delicious.

I say Panago (Chipotle Chicken or Chicken Club) or Chicago Deep Dish. My 2 favorites by far. 3rd place would be the donair pizza from Nitza's Pizza in St. Albert.

I don't live in Edmonton anymore but when I did we would always go to Rosebowl.

Also, don't mean to derail the thread but the best pizza I have had anywhere is in Chicago. Giordano's Pizza is the name of the place. Try it if you are there!

Boy you must really hate those Lefties and Liberals, moving in on your territory, opening up hippy pizza parlours and what not! Damn hippies, damn Funky Pickel pizza!

used to be the best in the city, bar none. It's where the Oilers and Eskies always went for pizza, it was a hidden gem. fairly expensive but amazingly tasty, slightly different. Unfortunately they no longer serve that same delicious style of pizza anymore, they've undergone some changes. That was THE place though, widely recognized to be anyways. It is no more :(
