I'd like to see them score some more at 5 on 5. They are generating a lot of looks but need to start capitalizing a bit more.

They're coming around recently. If they capitalized more regularly that would be great, but the Jets overall aren't hurting for 5v5 scoring (or outscoring).

Obviously live is different than watching on TV, but I've seen the Canes play way better than that this year. However, the Jets were pretty good at pressuring the puck all game and not giving them any really good looks.

Yeah they still outscore by a wide margin. It's more so through solid scoring and elite prevention. It's probably what the coach wants out of them as well. It seems the strategy is to have a high event offensive line, two two-way lines and an energy line.

It's really only a minor critique of mine.

The way the season is going, all there are are minor critiques it’s fun to imagine tweaks here and there.

Super happy for Comrie to get the win and shutout. I've been saying he's been playing well but just not getting the support so it's nice to see him get this one last night.

Overall I thought the team played well. Really liked the pace at times and thought both teams were playing fast.

Can't say much about a PP that is staying absolutely scorching hot besides keep it going!

Don't want to get too ahead, but the ENP line has played very well lately. They've seemed much more in synch. I don't have a technical reason to point to however, just seems like they're generating more chances, and creating more in the offensive zone, and not just off the rush. And not sacrificing D.

Nice to see Kupari and Gus playing well too in their roles. I commented on Gus more than a few games ago when he wasn't getting any love, so nice to see he's getting some.

Nino and Names (but especially Nino) have been absolutely slam dunk acquisitions. Didn't cost 1st round picks to acquire and both have turned out to not strictly be rentals.

The D had a solid game as well. Stan gets heat for bad games, so might as well give him credit when he plays a solid and unnoticeable (in a good way) game.

Great game overall. Stan had a massive giveaway early then became mostly unnoticeable.

My personal record for my vehicle is a 96 Orca-bodied Chevy Caprice 9c1 with 385,000 km - she still ran great, but the floors and quarters were bad... even after welding in new ones at 280,000 km, ha ha. Bought it at an auction in 2002, fixed the trans, and hit the road.

This was one of their best games of the season. It's different when it's a contender, a 3-0 shut out by the back up is a real feather in the hat. So glad the Jets won't face Rantanen on the Avs what a dangerous player he could have had a few goals in that game.

Binning is a bit arbitrary by nature. 10 games, 16 games, 1st half/2nd half, all well and good. 10 is a nice round decimal number. Very Metric. (BTW: the Jets' December 6-4 is really 6-2-2, so in points% terms it's .700 and January was 6-3-1/.650 - 6-4 makes it look like they were just .600 in both bins, but they were better).

16 game bins make sense because that isolates the crazy hot streak to start the season - and why would we want to do that? Because we're cherry picking, of course! Wait, no - it's because we recognize that hot streak as an unusual event - so separating that from what happened after might give us a better picture of what's more realistic for the team.

The fact that the slump came directly on the heels of the streak is a good example of regression. Then take the two bins together and you get a mean: 15-1-0 + 7-8-1 = 22-9-1 = .703 which is closer to reality than the .937 the Jets were rocking in their first 16 games, OR the .469 in their second 16. Right now they're .718, so pretty close.

16 games makes sense because it cuts the season into 5 equal blocks. These blocks actually reflects the schedule and the teams adv stats...

We cant argue about scheif or ehlers anymore so we are drifting into the same old 'whos the better fan' debate... its very predictable haha

Yes 16 games isolates the first winning streak and our 'losing' streak which is a lot better than i thought...

It also isolates the current winning streak coincidentally... which will be interesting to watch

I think the coaching staff is telling Stanley to use his size/reach to keep the play yo the outside in his own end... and to use his body to pin players to the boards when possible to take them out of the play... I've watched him closely in his own end and that seems to be what he's focusing on

I think it's also been emphasized to him that if he makes a read to activate/jump up, that he needs to body the player as well. He had a really good example of that last night in the 3rd at the Jets blueline

Lastly, based on his shot metrics, I think that Arniel is telling him to shoot the puck more

He still makes some headscratching reads and sometimes I wonder what the f*** he's thinking with the puck/first pass, but then I find myself noticing that with all our D men not named JoMo

Playoffs in North American pro sports are largely to drive revenue and keep fans engaged once their team is eliminated from the points race

I'm by no means saying that President's Trophy > Stanley Cup, but it's been really special to watch this team this year (and for large chunks of last year, too) and I've gotten immense enjoyment from them

Regular season winners deserve more respect than they usually get. 82 games vs 28 max. Play every other team. Live the day to day grind of practice, play, travel.

So far there has been a pattern of Presidents Trophy winners not doing all that well in the PO. It is almost viewed as a jinx, sort of like the Adams. If that pattern changes the PT winners will start getting more respect.

I believe you are correct.
L1 was fighting the puck all night. Scheif had a few good rushes but a funny moment was when Gabe broke in, dipsy doodled thru the defense like butter then passed it off to no one. It summed up their night. He was also not out for their last shift of the game. Hope he was not hurt.

I finally made it home after waiting almost thirty minutes trying to get out of the Convention Centre parking garage. Congratulations to Eric Comrie for the shutout, it was well deserved as he made some awesome saves. El Nino had another great game, he was busy at both ends of the ice. My only complaint, other than the guy two seats down from me yelling at the top of his lungs all night, was the fact that the Jets need someone who can consistently win faceoffs. I kept looking at the scoreboard and it was ranging around 30-40% faceoff wins for Winnipeg tonight. They need to improve on that, as I certainly think they miss Adam Lowry in that role. Despite that, I give the game five "55's" out of 5...

I was one of the posters ready to jump from the Jetwagon but my tune is changing over the past few games. The fact they have won without lowry, won 2 games with Comerie in net and are getting contributions from 3rd and 4th liners such as Kupari, Barron, Ford are all reasons to believe in this team. The Powertool has also not looked out of place the past few games.
I will add the caveat that playoffs are a different style of play. Their faceoffs are an issue and the power play goals propel them to many wins both things that can come back to haunt in the playoffs.

It's arguably more of an accomplishment to be on top after the 82 games, 6+ month slog of the regular season. But the general perception is that the regular season is just the seeding method for the playoffs and so we assign greater prestige to the Cup winner. Everyone pretty much agrees that the Stanley Cup Winner is the best team in the league. Everyone, including the players, think that way too, so the playoffs are definitely higher stakes and everyone digs deep...

Really, they're different kinds of accomplishments.
