Yzerman has had several chances to re-sign him and chose not to do so. At a certain point you just have to accept Yzerman didn’t value Bertuzzi like Bertuzzi wanted.

Bert got a bigger return than Taylor Hall did two years ago. People are crazy for thinking this is an underwhelming return.

Taylor Hall is a one dimensional winger, they always have lower value. Tyler has the attributes that suit playoff hockey.

Guessing bottom doesn’t plan to resign him and that is why the return is not as big.

He's the perfect stop gap. You have Pasta, Bergeron, and Krejci + Foligno all coming up. You could chose to stay the path and keep them and let Bert walk, or if one or two of them retire/leave, you can lock in Bert and you have it covered.

Hronek's return probably messed with our expectations a bit. I think this is a good return considering what we thought we'd get for Bert 2 weeks ago or so. Plus if Boston takes several steps back as well...

Larkin is worth having around for the new core with Seider/Raymond and hopefully Cossa/Edvinsson/Kasper + upcoming draft picks. Bertuzzi negotations with the Red Wings havent been great and seemingly broke down completely now. And the return we got for Hronek I think it was worth taking one step back to take multiple steps forward relatively soon.

Plus you never know these draft picks and prospects may become very useful if Yzerman decides to go big game hunting down the line.

Also something to think about; BOS loses Krejci and Bergeron to retirement (a real possibility), pays Pasta or he even worse he walks because Berg and Kerjci are gone...

That 2024 1st becomes a lot more interesting. There's a reason BOS is going all in, this is probably their last great chance at a Cup, and when the wheels come off of this, it's going to be bad
