Rumor: Benning shoots down current Tanev rumors; won't guarantee he won't be traded

So in other words he changed the offer for Evander Kane from Tanev to their 1st next year? :sarcasm:

Only way moving Tanev could make some sense is if they have a deal in place to acquire Tyson Barrie. Would depend on what the asking price for Barrie is and what they could get in return for Tanev, but with Benning and Co. in charge, I don't like the potential of either scenario.

Trading Tanev would be the worst thing to happen to the Canucks since Benning was hired.

Subban wasn't going to be traded bergevin said, it means nothing.

I hope you guys can trust him more than Bergevin when he uttered these same exact words

from this it doesn't sound like he'll be traded though

A competent GM would absolutely explore the market for Tanev in the wake of the Larsson-for-Hall deal. The Canucks aren't going to compete right now, so if they can get a steep overpayment for Tanev they might just acquire a star forward from a desperate team.

On the other hand, Jim Benning.

I'm 99% confident this won't happen, but on the other hand, Jim Benning.

Kane+4th+random big, gritty prospect w/ limited upside for Tanev+2nd+cap dump (one of Sbisa, Burrows, or Dorsett?)

I've never seen a more mediocre player generate more discussion around here than Tanev.

it wouldn't make any sense unless it was for an upgrade on the right side. Benning just overpaid to hopefully fix the right side defence so he's not about to make an even bigger hole.

Those are the most pointless comments from Benning, who by all accounts is an idiot.

His value may have been there at one point but not after that whole lady chokey thing.

How is Tanev mediocre? Sure, his offensive game is pretty meh, but he's a smooth, smart, shut down defender who can easily break up plays and transition the puck up ice even though he takes the brunt of difficult matchups
