Its crazy that people don't understand that a 70-80 mph puck to the jaw will likely cause the head to snap and create a concussion, even with a helmet. If that shot hit him square on the top of the head, he's probably fine. But that puck hit him square on the jaw, you could see it snap his head ever so slightly.

There's a reason boxers aim for the chin and jaw line - its the farthest from the pivot point (neck) and thus creates the most concussive force when twisted.

That's what kind of gets me about the apologists... doesn't actually have to be a super violent swing to hurt when you're not expecting it... anyone who thinks getting elbowed in the head by a professional head-elbower is nothing is very obviously someone who has never been in a fight in their life.
It's wild. These people live in la la land.

SB doesn't get the benefit of the doubt. He was really good at hiding his head shot to marchand. Only one angle showed it. He's good at this.

Well ok... why don't you post a screenshot of when you think the "steel" part of the elbow pad contacts his head?

Have you worn the new elbow pads? The entire elbow part of them is rock hard now. No softness at all. I found them really hard to get used to at first. I went back to an older style of elbow pad just to not have that happen to someone in a beer league game

Go check who the participants were, report back after, and tell me how amazing this study is.

Until a study comes out where they survey every NHL player and ask them if they shook their head last year and if they had a concussion, it is pointless.
This is a horrible argument. Abdominal pain is a symptom of gallbladder disease but obviously not all abdominal pain is gallbladder disease. Does that mean it’s irrelevant as a symptom and we have to study every single person who has ever had a tummy ache?

You don’t understand how science works.

I don't think the intent was to injure, but I 100% believe the intent was to hit him.

Not sure getting punched behind the ear is fun, even if it isn't very hard.

Bennett has a history of this sort of behavior, he shouldn't get the benefit of the doubt.
I don't see a punch.

While Bennett certainly has a history-and as I've said before I don't think he cares if he hurts someone-it's not justice to penalize him when there's not substantial evidence. And IMO, what happened was far beneath the threshold of punishment.

But where did the elbow meet the head?

League has made it clear once again that they are going to allow the players to police themselves. Given Toronto has the toughness Tampa Bay does not, one can only hope this series just got a WHOLE lot more interesting and physical.

Buddy, you guys employ Bennett, Marchand and Tkachuk LOL

Those 3 quite literally are the top 3 dirtiest players in the league. Prior to this you employed Gudas, who's probably top 5 dirtiest player.

Always dirty hits and headshots with intent to injure. Tkachuk at the end of the game tries to take Marner out, but I'm the one blinded by emotions lmao.

If the rulebook was actually enforced against you guys you'd have multiple suspensions every post-season, garbage organization that just tries to injure guys because big daddy Campbell is watching over them.
I think you forgot a certain Nick Cousins

Pretty much no one is saying that. I've been saying I thought the shot to the dome earlier in the game was likely the primary cause SINCE LAST NIGHT. The issue is you quoted an obviously bs study/"statistic" and then blindly defended it condescendingly. That's all.

“Punching” ok. I thought it was a big elbow?
Ignore the fact that taking that puck straight to his grill might’ve had an effect on his head that was exacerbated by the contact with Bennett.
It looks like an elbow in slow mo it's a punch. Does it matter?

You don’t understand how science works.

Shaking your head could be a sign of a concussion, but the 72% number floating around is not that 72% of the time when you shake your head it is a concussion.

Go read the study, it is severely flawed.

I am not claiming to be a scientist, but you can just read how they conducted the research and it is obviously a terrible study.

I think someone should go through all the concussions players in the NHL have had, look if they have shaken their head after being hit, and report the % of players who have shaken their heads.

That is the study basically, this method is actually more accurate because it doesn't rely on personal recall.
