Bennett hit on Stolarz (no supplemental discipline) MOD WARNING IN POST #621

If the team doctors and the league spotters missed it, that is the issue.

Going back in time pointing to another incident that also wasn't a suspension is pointless. Has nothing to do with anything.

Again hopefully Stolarz is OK and we get an actual medical professional telling us all what happened.

Everything else is speculation and bad blood.

Naturally the Panthers added gasoline to the fire by making Bennett not available to defend himself despite being asked.

The opposing coach (Berube) said he watched the video and it was a clear elbow to the head. Maurice was asked about it and said he didn't see it. He was asked of Bennett's reputation and walked off the podium.

Speculation will grow because the Panthers ran away from the incident.

Of course you know better than a neuroscientist who is an expert in the area of head injuries.

I know enough to tell you that you can't diagnose a concussion off a video and a subsequent headshake, unfortunately the neuroscientist thinks he can or wants attention, or both.

Even in his own words, there's a 29% chance a headshake does not indicate a concussion. So you're intentionally misleading people by claiming that was the cause of his medically undiagnosed concussion.

Answering questions about what happened and giving him an opportunity to explain things.

Now it just looks like he's hiding from scrutiny
Watched both of the press conferences. Bennett hit was the only thing talked about. Why would he sit there and get asked the same question over and over again.

Here’s how it would go:

Reporter 1:

So uh sam what went through your head when you were going by stolarz and hit him in the back of the head

Bennett:
just lost the puck and stolarz was out far and just accidentally made contact with him

Reporter 2: did you intentionally try and take out our lord and saviour to sabotage the leafs amid a 58 year Stanley cup drought?

Bennett: didn’t mean to hit stolly, great guy played with him last year hope he’s alright

Reporter 3: so sam just going back to that hit- were you aware Anthony stolarz was puking on the bench and had to leave the game

Bennett: was on my own bench listening to Paul (Maurice) so no I did not see stolarz leave.

Reporter 4: did you ever have any problems with Anthony? (stolarz)

Bennett: alright that’s enough questions for today guys. See you next game.

Toronto media:

Oh Bennett look at that puke dodging reporters questions. Players need to be held accountable.

Goalies take shots off the helmet all the time. There was no reason to suspect anything until he started showing symptoms. Stolarz stayed in the game. The medical staff aren't all knowing.
Bob got hit in the head with the puck in the game. Helmet is made for taking pucks to the head straight on, it's not made for taking big elbows to the side of the head.

Missed what? Are you talking about the shot in the first and that twitter stuff. The headshake stuff is silly as goalies do that an absolute ton.

The Leafs have a capable backup if he was feeling the tiniest bit unwell and Stolarz played great until the elbow to the head and was with staff in the room during intermission right? I mean, you never know these things I guess but 99% sure he was fine. Theres a better chance that the blindside blow that took him out got him bad spot and its the ones you dont see coming that hurt you right?

I'll go out on a limb saying I've played more games in net than that neuroscientist. Every goalie does it.

I'm a goalie as well been hit in the mask many times. It rattles you but to say it was a concussion is pure speculation. I've been hit so hard my nose bled no concussion.

Just one guy’s opinion, but:

- Bennett is a greasy player with a history, and that matters here.

- Players crash the crease and collide with the goalie constantly in the playoffs. Contact alone is nothing remarkable.

- Watching Bennett closely, he keeps his arms tucked in and has eyes on the puck all the way through this sequence. At most you could say he didn’t make an effort to avoid the goaltender, but he also didn’t make any clear effort to strike him either. There’s no “shot” here, just contact as they both go for the puck at the same time.

- Knowing that Stolarz had recently been blasted in the face explains a lot. The collision with Bennett doesn’t seem like it would have enough force to send him off on a stretcher. It seems highly likely that he was Lindros’ed into a situation where the next relatively light bit of contact had huge consequences.

- At the end of the day, this looks like incidental contact on a rebound and without Bennett’s reputation in play it would be a stretch to call it a minor penalty. If you want to hit Bennett with a minor to send a message, that’s fine too. But there’s no grounds for anything further here.

Not all shots are created equal. Just because goalies aren't injured often, doesn't mean it didn't happen here.

A shot the dome combined with an elbow is probably gonna do some damage.

Maybe you were concussed after you shook your head after putting your mask on? (that seems to be the big evidence)

As a goaltender who suffered a concussion on a similar play as this i would like to note that the goalie helmet has more padding in the front. There's an extra layer of padding above the eyebrows and forehead. (See image)

Obviously you're most likely to get hit in the head in the front from shots from opposing players so the helmet is designed as such.

However there's less padding on the sides so getting hit from the side in manner Bennett hit Stolarz would be more likely to cause injury imo.

Non medically trained fans know better than trained professionals, even though they completely dismiss the video provided, because no one can tell from just a video clip. But from the same clip you do know 100% the cause?

Make it make sense, without your personal feelings or assumptions.

Every persons brain physiology is different. Let's hear from the medical staff that actually treated him shall we?

Again, hopefully Stolie is fine am comes back 100%.
